Contact the media regarding Gore's speech tomorrow
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 04:41 PM by Armstead
A couple of posts on DU noted that Al Gore is slated to make an important speech tomorrow where he confronts the Bush administration head on regarding Constitutional rights.

My suggestion is that today and tonight we all send out e-mails to the media and politely say we expect them to give it adequate coverage and follow up analysis that is fair. One point is to balanmce all of the free airtime they give to Bush and otehr administration officials whenever they sneeze. (After all Gore actually won the popular vote in 2000.)

Particular targets should be CNN and MSNBC. (Fox? fergedaboutit).

I am under no illusion that the networks will jump to attention just because we ask. But it will increase the likeliehood that they will factor that into their editorial decisions tomorrow if they know that a significant number of people want to see it covered.

1. not a bad idea, my thinking is that they'll all give it 20 seconds by
taking a 15 second clip out of context and then rolling their eyes and smirking for 5 seconds

I could be wrong.... but probably not.

8. He is right in that respect
The media will most likely have a camera crew at Mrs Alito's house to show her bawling and crying during the speech while Whora O'Donnell outside yells "Will the democrats EVER stop the smearing of GOOD Americans?"

6. And while you're at it, consider mentioning Wed's activities:
Don't Buy the Media Narrative - Dems Have Their Shit Together

They are coming out swinging on Wednesday!

Do you know what's about to happen Wednesday? There are about 100 high-profile speeches and meetings scheduled, where prominent Democrats will, in a unified way, assail the culture of corruption, offer their own proposal to reform Washington, and promote their slate of candidates in 2006. This is right from the old Republican message management playbook, and Howard Dean is at the forefront of these efforts.

17. Hit your local media. That's where it's at. Also LTTE's plus above.
I'm going so I'll be making calls locally and to the Post, which I suspect will cover it and make snide remarks. They're awful

Great idea--preemptive action.

20. Glad to help out.
I`m really looking forward to Gore`s speech. Now that he has dislodged himself from the inside-the-beltway chains, he seems more spontaneous, more courageous. His last few speeches have been stunning in their intellectual depth.

We have been asking these guys (the media) to run stories for our side Election Theft Machines, Conyers, Barbara Boxer, the list goes on and on, They ignore us when we ask so Maybe just maybe we should start DEMANDING that they run our stories, after all WE do own them airwaves.

..but i am so full of piss and vinegar...

Good evening. I feel silly asking this question. Will you be covering Al Gore's speech tomorrow? Jeez...I can hear the laughter from here. I forgot, CNN doesn't actually cover news anymore! It's been so long since I tuned in Wolf Blitzer of CBN fame. That's okay...I'll watch on C-Span. Besides, you'll have the talking-heads on regurgitating their talking points, passed down from on high. Sure do miss Ted Turner.

26. Jonathan Alter's Newsweek column mentions it in (very briefly).
A Power Outage on Capitol Hill
We are in danger of scrapping our checks and balances—not just for a few years (as was done during the Civil War), but for good.

-snip-
"Remember, this is not about whether it's right or wrong to wiretap bad guys, though the White House hopes to frame it that way for political purposes. Any rational person wants the president to be able to hunt for Qaeda suspects wherever they lurk. The "momentous" issue (Alito's words) is whether this president, or any other, has the right to tell Congress to shove it. And even if one concedes that wartime offers the president extra powers to limit liberty, what happens if the terrorist threat looks permanent? We may be scrapping our checks and balances not just for a few years (as during the Civil War), but for good.

Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Russ Feingold ably raised some of these questions last week; Al Gore is about to weigh in, too. But the Democratic Party as a whole cannot stay focused on the issue. Some activists keep jumping ahead to the remedy for the president's power grab, which they say is impeachment. But that's a pipe dream and a distraction from the task at hand, which is figuring out how to reassert Congress's institutional role. This must by necessity involve Republicans, who control Congress. Unfortunately, most have so far shown little concern about being defenestrated by their president."

29. But they have no accountability
It doesn't seem to matter if they are fair or not, so they engage in lazy, shoddy journalism.

I think the major networks have a bit more of a stake. Currently I like CBS best.
