Hitler had SS, Saddam had Republican Guard, Bush needs Republican Guard
for next wars.

Our military and those of essentially all industrialized nations pride themselves on being apolitical and subject to elected civilian governments.

The Bush administration has tried to change this in a number of ways from purging generals whose advice he didn't like to tacitly allowing the Air Force Academy to become an Evangelical institution, to pumping Fox News and Rush Limbaugh into the troops, but this is wrong.

Instead, the right should use their vast resources to form a Republican Guard to execute their foreign hegemony plan and leave the existing military to actually defend the United States.

Like our existing military, it would be all volunteer, but they could be allowed to have any political, religious, or sexual orientation litmus test they want.

And they should definitely have a unique uniform, maybe like those in Starship Troopers.

They probably already thought of this and calculated exactly how many of their followers would volunteer (zero), which is why they are resorting to much higher priced mercenaries instead.

The good news is support in the military for Bush's policies is declining to the point that we might soon see them refusing to act as shock troops for wars of conquest to enrich Bush's friends, and that will create a new red line no president dare cross, just as after Nixon ended the draft, no president would dare call for bringing it back.

3. Food for thought
I've kind of had almost this same thought kicking around in my head for a while now regarding all those mercenaries he's got employed in Iraq.

Exactly who is being trained over there?? And what for??

It would explain all that 'lost' money.
It might also explain why 'our' soldiers have been so ill prepared, under equipped, over worked, and deployed over and over again. After all, what is the purpose of the National Guard anyway? Weren't they an offshoot of what we initially referred to as the 'militia' the first time we had to fight a 'King George'?

Tin foil firmly in place, thanks.

8. training in Iraq = obedience to us
the whole training argument drives me nuts. Those people aren't apes who just descended from trees and learned to walk upright. They have had police and a military before and could put together passable versions on their own.

What the Bushies want is a force that obeys our orders and fights the insurgents to protect American oil companies interests.

4. How do you know he doesn't already have a force like that?

Some concerned staffer will probably leak it later this year.

It would be a private army though. Paid for by Bush family riches. Blackwater esque.

15. That was kind of what I was getting at
Can't train them in this country, so offer them some OJT while they're over there blowing away innocent Iraqis.

5. Perhaps College Republicans would wear the uniform for B*sh.
As long as they don't actually have to go to war, they would probably love all of those bright, shiny buttons.

16. Bush has his SS
called the Secret Service. They traded their role as being the protector of his physical safety, to safeguarding his sorry ass from those that disagree with him.

18. Secret Service weren't doing the ejecting from speeches and went to some
pains to let protesters know that it was party thugs.

I've read other articles that have said those guys aren't too happy with Bush either. They've probably heard a lot that strains their vows of silence.

20. 20,000 Mercs in Iraq.
More coming from Latin America. The Neo Fascist Regime of Bush will supply more Mercs as the Amerikan Forces are burnt out. The oil of Iraq will be defended!

"The terrorists want to control the oil. Our way of life will be at risk". George W. Bush (Nov. 2005)

Bush Regime Iraq Successes (Phase 1)

1. Saddam will no longer sell Iraqi oil via the Euro.

2, A military foothold in the ME. Other than Saudi Arabia.

3, No countries will be able to buy Iraqi oil that the U.S. disapproves of.

4. The Multi-Intl. Oil Corps are reaping great profits.

5.The Military Industrial Complex is a booming Industry.
