Why I'm glad Bush was re-elected: |
|
It's no secret that the first four years of his misadministration caused unimaginable damage to the US and global economies, an unwinable, unnecessary war, and the lives of millions of people.
He's caused an international cultural backlash against the US, as well.
There is nothing that can be done to undo much of this damage over a handful of years; it's going to take decades.
If a Democrat had been elected in '04, it would have been a prime opportunity for the usual gang of media imbiciles to attack the Left, for being ineffective in dealing with the West's problems.
Instead, Bush is crashing and burning in his house of sand. Even elected Republicans are coming out against him in public. The media, ultimately, are whores, and they won't want to spend much more time on this mis-administrations sinking ship; they'll swing over to reflect and pander to the views of a majority of American viewers/listeners/readers.

1. Problem Is, This Isn't Just About Whether We Win Out Politically. |
|
Had he not cheated and President Kerry was rightfully sworn in, then
No Roberts
No Alito
No Katrina Clusterfuck
No Continued Carnage Due To Horrible Policy In Iraq
etc....

2. The television media sure showed plenty of support for Samuel Alito |

for the Supreme Court.
I've watched plenty of guests give there opinions, and I haven't heard one oN TV come out strongly against Alito.

7. I too have been secretly glad that * stole 04, because.... |
|
...it took until 06 for the sheeple to finally stir from their slumber. And like an alcoholic who must hit bottom before recovery can begin, the country and it's people must hit bottom before meaningful and committed political recovery can begin. An 04 victory by Kerry would have spelled disaster for our side as every hideous mess this mis-administration has created would be blamed on the Dem's by the vicious spin machine of the right.

5. I think the media can fool people into buying the right's lies |

We need a liberal media outlet or the facts wont get out there. Now, *if* facts get out, they are buried or washed out by a vociferous rightwing rebuttal.

The system was ripe for usurping ... for a long time now. The remedy, I believe, is moving past the foolish notion that the U.S. is/was immune to the rise of fascism. Fact is, that level of ignorance and denial is essential for fascism to thrive. We are doing this to ourselves.
It's gonna take a revolution, you know.

to us by an incompetent ceo wannabe. had someone competent come into office, the repugs might have gotten away with what they are trying now. with someone competent, we might have been in the dark for a very long time . . . too late to do anything about it.
the neo-cons could have found someone to carry out american imperialism without our knowing what hit us. as it is now, they have been trumped by the religious right. they will try again but hopefully will not be as covert next time.
however, we are not out of the woods yet.

9. Wish I was such an optimist |

Instead, I see a country being dismantled to the extent that we might never be able to repair the damage.
I see rights trampled, lives lost...
No, there's just no way I can spin this as good. Sorry.
