Sam Brownback booed at the KU basketball game yesterday.
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 06:24 PM by Scout1071
Against in-state rival Kansas State. I was there. There was definitely more disapproval in form of loud booing than approval from the crowd when they put him on the videobard and announced his presence.

The Democratic Governor, Kathleen Sebelius, was well-received moments earlier.

Just thought you might enjoy that little nugget of info.

1. This former Kansan is cheering! Brownback is a pawn of the right wing...
He's dangerous in my opinion.

9. Yea, but my Repuke parents from KC were there
along with many other Johnson County (what's the matter with) Kansas parents. The booing is great news. Too bad KU lost to KSU.. That was embarrassing.

11. yea, but KU's number was up.
Hate to say it, but I felt this loss comin' a mile away. We'll put them away in Manhattan.

And yes, there was some applause. But the boo's definitely won the battle of opinion.

4. He should have read Tip O'Neill's book.
"All Politics are Local".

One cardinal rule. Never, ever let yourself be introduced at a sporting event. Many people will boo, even if they don't know who you are (Although Brownstain more than deserves it). The media will dutifully report the booing.

12. The governor allocates money for higher education.
Brownback is a social climber who's thinking of running for president. Students will always boo the latter instead of the former.

14. It's Brownback that needs to Beware of the Phog.
Says so right there in the rafters. "Pay heed, all who enter: Beware of the Phog"

24. Thank you. It's a tribute to Forrest "Phog" Allen. A former coach of KU
and the namesake of the building they have played in for 50 years. Although James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, was the first coach at KU, it was Dr. Phog Allen who KU fans and basketball fans alike have adored and associated with first and foremost through the years. Although he died long before I came on the scene at KU, I've had the great pleasure to meet many former players who played for Phog. Both he and Dr. Naismith emphasized academics and personal excellence in sports and beyond to personal lives, as far back as the late 1800's. It was Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Bridges and JoJo White and many, many others who played for Phog and made KU and Kansas proud.

Kansas fans believe the spirit of both men live on at Allen Fieldhouse. Hence the phrase: "Pay heed, all who enter: Beware of the Phog." Their spirits make it a magical place and without a doubt one of the greatest sporting experiences a person could experience anywhere in the world. When the sounds of the Rock Chalk chant ring through the place, it will give you goose bumps. I'm an alum and 7 year season ticket holder. It gives me goose bumps every single time. Click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page for a recording of what the chant sounds like and imagine it times 16,000 fans:

In the final seconds. What a great game, eh. Absolutely loved it!

But good to see that both KS and MO are finally getting our heads out of our political asses and recognizing what's going on in this country.
