Cronkite: Time for U.S. to Leave Iraq NOW
Cronkite: Time for U.S. to Leave Iraq
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

PASADENA, Calif. - Former CBS anchor Walter Cronkite, whose 1968 conclusion that the Vietnam War was unwinnable keenly influenced public opinion then, said Sunday he'd say the same thing today about Iraq.

"It's my belief that we should get out now," Cronkite said in a meeting with reporters.
...............

The best time to have made a similar statement about Iraq came after Hurricane Katrina, he said.

"We had an opportunity to say to the world and Iraqis after the hurricane disaster that Mother Nature has not treated us well and we find ourselves missing the amount of money it takes to help these poor people out of their homeless situation and rebuild some of our most important cities in the United States," he said. "Therefore, we are going to have to bring our troops home."

Iraqis should have been told that "our hearts are with you" and that the United States would do all it could to rebuild their country, he said.

"I think we could have been able to retire with honor," he said. "In fact, I think we can retire with honor anyway."

2. Retire with HONOR!?!?!
After an unprovoked attack on an unarmed nation?
After killing 100,000K Iraqi's to control their oil fields?
After letting Halliburton and KBR spend 'reconstruction money' on their new projects in Iraq - none of which benefitted the Iraqi people.

TELL THE TRUTH!
TELL THE TRUTH!
TELL THE TRUTH!
TELL THE TRUTH!
TELL THE TRUTH!

The truth will set up free. Half measures avail us nothing.

4. I don't know if you lived through Vietnam IndyOp, if so you may remember..
...it required that phrase "Peace with Honor" to bring the right-wing citizenery on-board that we've been defeated.

I think I see where Cronkite was going with that phrase...consider.

Had we just said "We're defeated" we'd have gotten no traction in those times.

Probably even less so in this generation with so many neocon brainwashed in the electorate.

The first thing to do is ceasefire and leave under whatever circumstances.

We'll get out the truth (as we did about Vietnam) later.
