Isn't this the perfect time for the DU activist corps?
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 08:46 PM by senseandsensibility
My DU profile says I'm a member of the DU activist corps. Does it still exist?

Imagine thousands of energized DUers bombarding the senate and the media about Alito. The potential is there. How can we make it happen?

I'm not blaming anyone for the lack of DU activist corps activity. But if we can't get together now, when will be able to? We need to get this together because there are many, many fights ahead.

Any suggestions?

1. Great idea. Perhaps send messages to Skinner, EarlG, and Elad...
...requesting a call-up of the corps??

4. Done
I sent an e-mail. I'd appreciate it if you would too, ClassWarrior. I know that your opinion is well respected on the board.

3. I agree; I'd be happy to get involved in a
mass DU movement. Individual alerts and finite time frames work wonders, I think.

5. I think anyone enrolled has already done all that.......
and many who aren't enrolled as well. I think this has struck a chord with all of us. If you haven't been writing and calling you just don't care. If we need to be told to do this we deserve to lose.

6. Thanks for the positive comments
and for assuming that I've done nothing. Really, I mean it, man.

8. I never assumed anything.........
where did I assume that you've done nothing? Not one word of what I said had anything specifically to do with you. I'm just saying that if we need to be told to activate we're in pretty sorry shape. If we can't take the initiative on our own we're screwed already.

10. Well, it sounded that way...
Sorry if I overreacted. The point is, though, that call to arms by the administators of DU will organize and focus our efforts. Individually, we are not as effective.

7. What about an Activist Corps appeal, with email/FAX/phone/petition info
pinned to the top of all the major forums, until the vote for confirmation? Could the activist corps be unburied for a time, since we need it so badly right now?

9. I've e-mailed Skinner et al with that suggestion
You've described what needs to be done beautifully. Do you think you could send your suggestion to them, too? The more they hear from the better!:)

12. Important Suggestion - Post lists of 'to call' or 'to do'
being sensitive to varying levels of time activists have to work with -

Post list of '4 most important calls' and '8 most important calls' and '12 most important calls' -- something that makes it possible for people to sort out who to call if they can't fax or call all 100 Senators --

I *have* called DC about this, and emailed, and signed petitions, and donated $...

I would like to do more and sometimes feel defeated before I can start when looking at a list of 100 Senator's names...

18. Already called...
The offices of Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both of Arkansas, are closed today for the holiday, but I left messages at all of Blanche's offices and at Pryor's DC office. His Little Rock voice mail is full.

Any more suggestions? I would love to think that we all have done absolutely all we can to stop this man.

20. We don't need the Activist Corps to do what you're suggesting.
We can just do it. Good post. :)
