Jeb Bush may be responsible for bringing out the Dem vote in 2006.
Behind closed doors, Jeb and Repub state lawmakers were discussing the possibility of putting private school vouchers on the November ballot. After the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the vouchers were unconstitutional, the Repubs basically are trying to circumvent the ruling by changing the state constitution.

I'm not sure why they're going to bother since this will bring out the Dem vote and they know it. But it shows that Jebbie isn't adverse to lying since his statement last week after the Florida Supreme Court ruled the vouchers were unconstitutional was that the court was the final word in the state and he was obligated to uphold their opinion. Now, less than a week, he's caught behind closed doors trying to do something that contradicts his statement.

Does anybody know what effect the Florida Supreme Court ruling will have on kids next year who are going to private school with vouchers? Will they now have to go to schools they're zoned for starting next year?

clip:

"It's been a public policy embraced by the Legislature," he added. "And if we can't do it under the current constitutional construct, I think a constitutional amendment is going to be proposed, and it will be a tight vote."

One Republican gubernatorial candidate, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, has already vowed to do whatever is necessary to keep vouchers alive. And for the fourth straight governor's race in Florida, it looks almost certain that vouchers will prove a central theme.

Democrats say vouchers will prove a misstep for Republican candidates, who will expend energy and draw controversy defending a program that has had little effect on public education.

"I wish they would put their genius toward something that would be good for the system," said Rep. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach. "Why waste so much time and debate on something that has had such little effect?"

1. Unless all the votes are counted........
it's a moot point. The Democrats can show up by the boatload, whoever counts the votes wins.

3. Yes, but isn't it possible to confirm the vote is fixed if a Republican
governor and senator wins, but the voucher issue loses? I believe someone proved something similar in a local election.

8. But why would it lose?
You can fix one vote, you can fix them all.

11. Wouldn't it be easier to pick up patterns if they tried to overreach?

There's this amazing book called Freakonomics that makes a point of finding out if the oddest things are truly random.

5. Today when I saw a headline on the net to the effect of "State
University finds $275,000.00 in undeposited cash and checks" why was I sure it was a Florida school despite there being 49 other possibilites?
(It was, of course. USF)

On the way back from Tallahassee today we wandered into the Big Bend area, there are some really disturbing (and disturbed) characters in that area...

7. No screaming shit......
I've been through there dozens of times, even considered living on Cedar Key until I actually went there and spent some time. It's a scary fucking place. Nothing but long hair, beards, camouflage, pick-up trucks with gun racks, and those are the women! :wow:

As I told my daughter when we were passing through once, "this is the kind of place I never would have made it out alive from in the 60's". And that's the truth!

9. Yesterday there was a woman getting the tank in her pickup
filled by a guy who was with her, he and she both smoked cigarettes the whole time (while the wind was blowing about 30 mph) while I tried to estimate the probable size of the fireball and whether I would be in it.
This was off of Hwy. 19 North of Chiefland.

Today while tanking up at the Keaton Beach "Service and Grill" a guy called the female he was with a "stupid fucking bitch" loud enough for me to hear. His car had the "too fucking drunk to see the right side of my car" assortment of dings, scrapes and dents I remember from my drinking days.

Saw a little girl about 5 years old in camouflage from head to toe yesterday. My theory on the camo is this, up North (I am from Wisconsin) when it gets really cold you see a lot of blaze orange clothing because deer hunting stuff is the warmest apparel people have and I figure the same thing applies here. Or do they make bikinis in camo?

Keaton Beach "Service and Grill" is the only place I have ever been in that sold Confederate flags. I was tempted to buy one as camouflage for the car until we could get back to the highway.

17. Move to Florida. It's a laugh riot. You can get a condo here for
under a million if you buy pre-construction and camp out at the sales office so you are the first in line.

18. I do live in Florida.
I'm laughing because I thought I was the only one who noticed this kind of stuff. My personal favorite was the tough looking motorcyclist with the word, "Bithlo Bitch" tatooed on her arm.

As for real estate prices, yeah, it is odd how the prices have suddenly shot up that way.

19. Should have guessed. I am trying to figure out a way to steal
$5,000 so I can be ready for that "tax holiday" they are talking about having in August. Sure is a good thing our Republican legislature doesn't cater to rich people...

Maybe I can find some elderly neighbor who will have me write out their checks for them-can't cheat them on dance lessons, I have two left feet.

6. getting the DEM vote out is about GOTV
Never rely on your opposition to shot themselves in the foot, Figuritivly speaking, tell the voters why you will blow your opponents head off, then take a shot gun and blow their freakin heads off. They will respect that and more times than not vote for you, even if they occassionaly disagree.

Think Campaign Field operations, GOTV. Get FLyers now, from your local DEM running for the House, go door to door, talk to folks, even just on your block, make the personal connection NOW.

GO to a grocery store, w/FLyers, talk, connect. NOW. DO it, 1 hour every saturday?

Lay the foundation for victory in November, NOW.

vote out down here. however, that comment about he who counts the vote is right on . . . personally, i think jeb's elections were practice for the repugs stealing the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

btw, when state voters voted in smaller classroom size, our esteemed governor said he'd find some devious (his word) way to circumvent that vote. one group the repugs WILL go after are the justices who overturned the voucher program.

I've seen too many elections flip in the last hours of the night. Just too weird.

13. But How Do You Get The DEM Vote COUNTED?
This is FLORIDA we're talking about here.
Do they even bother hooking up the voting machines, or do they just make up the numbers that they publish as the results?

15. Repub counties have paper ballots in Florida, where most Dem
counties don't. How they've managed to do this when Bush v. Gore determined that the state should follow a uniform system is beyond me. It's like Bush V. Gore's only purpose was to select Bush as president.

20. That was, indeed, its only purpose
That's why the majority opinion of B vs. Gore was not signed and why the assenting justices declared that it would be a one-time only decision and not set a precedent.
