1. The simple fact that we have to report a successful test says volumes.
It's a broken system that doesn't work. If it did, a successful intercept (especially considering the age of the program) wouldn't be an issue.

But, what the hell? We have decades-old technology that we've spent billions of dollars on that can occasionally do what it's designed to do.

Let's celebrate!

2. Did the target have a transponder broadcasting "Here I am!"?
It does a great job of attracting government contracts.

5. They keep launching Minutemen Missiles in my neck of the
woods at Vandenberg AFB aimed at the Marshall Islands. Does this have anything to do with it?

7. Does this piece of shit indeed work? Or more propaganda, to convince us
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 11:54 PM by LaPera
"we're safe", perhaps, or back to the drawing board if not...Still, hundreds of billions of our tax dollars have already been spent.

Maybe, if they know exactly when the would be missile will be fired, and from where, and by whom, they might, itn just might be able to knock it out...still doubtful, just billions more spent to justify what, another republican extravagant expense for their friends and republican donors...

We're dealing with defense contractor liars, who have manipulated the test results with no real accountability by BushCo... Shit, they're all friends, cocktail party fucks receiving our billions. given away though tax dollars...Do you doubt it?

BushCo is forcing the situation. to see what "they've" got...It's a video game to them...they don't even know(they don't even care...But how much fun is it for them?

They really believe they are industructible and are dying to prove it to the world...Any excuse, somewhere, anywhere in the world. And they will!!!

15. W's flexing his power again?
Against who? Even Rummy, the brain dead, says North Korea only has a rudimentary missle program.

But W's defense buds are in dollar heaven. A transference of our taxes to their pockets.

21. for some really scary shit, check out the sunburn missile...We have no way
as of yet, of stopping it.

http://www.rense.com/general59/theSunburniransawesome.htm

The Sunburn can deliver a 200-kiloton nuclear payload, or: a 750-pound conventional warhead, within a range of 100 miles, more than twice the range of the Exocet. The Sunburn combines a Mach 2.1 speed (two times the speed of sound) with a flight pattern that hugs the deck and includes "violent end maneuvers" to elude enemy defenses. The missile was specifically designed to defeat the US Aegis radar defense system. Should a US Navy Phalanx point defense somehow manage to detect an incoming Sunburn missile, the system has only seconds to calculate a fire solution not enough time to take out the intruding missile. The US Phalanx defense employs a six-barreled gun that fires 3,000 depleted-uranium rounds a minute, but the gun must have precise coordinates to destroy an intruder "just in time."

The Sunburn's combined supersonic speed and payload size produce tremendous kinetic energy on impact, with devastating consequences for ship and crew. A single one of these missiles can sink a large warship, yet costs considerably less than a fighter jet. Although the Navy has been phasing out the older Phalanx defense system, its replacement, known as the Rolling Action Missile (RAM) has never been tested against the weapon it seems destined to one day face in combat. Implications For US Forces in the Gulf

22. AFAIK the only time it's been successful is when it's rigged to the max
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 02:17 AM by Hekate
Vandenberg AFB is just over the mountains from Santa Barbara so we get to see the pretty contrails from the missile tests... Unless something has drastically changed, the only way they've ever been able to make one missile hit another is when both have been completely programmed to find each other -- and even then it's not a sure thing.

Goddam Reagan and his fantasies. Goddam the Masters of War.

Bushco has singlehandedly brought back the arms race -- and witless wonder that he is, he specializes in kicking over ants' nests.

23. What's successful? The fact it didn't screw up? I hope no one's impressed
or awed by this.

It's like taking an aspirin and being astounded that your headache went away.
