Geraldo Rivera: "I've seen a hell of a lot more combat than John Kerry."
Rivera: ...To withdraw at a date certain. I've know John Kerry for over thirty five years. Unlike me-he is a combat veteran, so he gets some props, but in the last thirty five years, I've seen a hell of a lot more combat than John Kerry...

S-A-L-U-T-E...

I was there in my desert cammo undergarments(thong)on the OD Green velveteen couch, in front of my 54" Army surplus TV set, defending the free world and eating a victory pizza with the works, the day the neoNazis hit Geraldo in the face with the metal folding chair and broke his larger than life snout! WHAT A BATTLE! Yes, Geraldo should get the purple heart with oak leaves and diamonds for that horrible boo-boo he got on his snoz, on that historic but awful day.

Since then I think Geraldo has had a change of heart and joined forces with the neoNazi types.

They teach Rat Patrol at the War College I think.

I don't know if Geraldo has a war college degree or not, but I'm sure he's an expert, at all of that war stuff, like he is on every other subject known to mankind. Geraldo and Bildo know just about everything there is to know and Greta Von Cesspool knows the things they missed!

"Seen" is the key word there.
Anyway, of course VietNam is a while ago, and therefore even a FEMALE reporter in a combat zone since then has, by definition, "seen" more combat than JK SINCE VietNam.

But what is Geraldo's point?? He STILL isn't a soldier!

during the period when Geraldo and Aaron Brown were going at it. Here's a mention of it I found on the web: "The only time Rocca laughed at the PowerPoint presentation was during a clip featuring Colbert. During his impersonation of Geraldo Rivera, who was accused of embellishing about his whereabouts during the war by a rival network’s anchor, Colbert coined a new term: poopalanche." http://www.angelfire.com/ia/natbot/MoRocca.html

March 31, 2003

* US troops kill 7 civilians including women and children in a car whose driver refuses to stop at a checkpoint. According to one account the driver ignored several warning shots, as well as gunfire into the vehicle's engine. According to another account, no warning shots were fired.
* Journalist Peter Arnett is fired by NBC after giving an interview to Iraqi television, which some considered as unfairly critical of the Bush administration's war on Iraq. Later in the day, Arnett is hired by a British tabloid, the Daily Mirror.
* The Pentagon orders embedded FOX News reporter Geraldo Rivera from its troops and demands him to leave Iraq after accusing him of reporting United States troop positions.

70. What are the links in reference to?
Just wondering... since I was being sarcastic re: Geraldo's comments, and the links don't seem to match my comment about him and "China Beach"...

69. Well, he did have his nose broken in 1988 by a flying chair...
From Wikipedia:

In 1987 he began hosting a daytime talk show, Geraldo, which was oriented toward controversial guests and theatricality - one of the early shows was titled "Men in Lace Panties and the Women Who Love Them". His nose was broken in a well-publicized brawl that occurred on a 1988 show between Neo-nazi skinheads and black and Jewish activists, which sparked Newsweek's characterization of his show as "Trash TV".

So I guesss he has seen some combat. As far as more than Kerry? I don't really think so...

71. Maybe Geraldo was in the same foxhole with Junior and O'Reilly
"I've been to war. I've raised twins. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to war." George W. Bush, January, 2002 Bush avoided the Vietnam war by arranging an assignment in the Texas Air National Guard. He never saw combat.

"I'll tell you what. I've been in combat. I've seen it, I've been close to it... and if my unit is danger, and I've got a captured guy, and the guy knows where the enemy is, and I'm looking him in the eye, the guy better tell me. That's all I'm gonna tell you. The guy better tell me. If it's life or death, he's going first." Bill O'Reilly, Jan. 18, 2005 O'Reilly served in the military.

I just noticed, I should have said, "O'Reilly never served in the military."

Edit: Hey, I'm not getting paid to do this. :dunce:

108. I think Bildo or Geraldo would blow the hell outta somebody ...
if that somebody, had about a quarter to pay them with afterward. They believe in "don't ask don't tell" when it comes to the truth about bushco.

They BASH war veterans and praise chicken hearted AWOLS and draft dodgers? They love cowards and they sh*t on the people who had the guts to serve the country. How can people TRUST anyone that stupid?

73. Seen, as in looked at, as in spectated. O'Reilly says the same
They like saying it that way because it makes them sound like hardened vets. But I could probably get some binoculars and "see" combat too.

Even Gore was in more danger, and he was a journalist. He put himself in harm's way. I bet neither Rivera or O'Really did that. In fact, Rivera was a hinderance, revealing troop positions. They kicked him out of the country and he wouldn't leave, the moron.

Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:03 PM by Beelzebud
Oliver Stone says in the DVD commentary that fictional news man Wayne Gayle is based on Geraldo Rivera.

It makes the movie so much more enjoyable when you look at the character in that context. :D

85. Forgotten and forgiven
our intrepid journalist was yanked onto the carpet when he idiotically broadcast actual battlemaps DURING the dicey days of the invasion. What combat he has seen only the enemy appreciated he was there.

Besides that idiot traitor moment, our seasoned warrior pundit, had some episodes of blink and duck, cut and run that were less heatedly publicized. Unlike O'Reilly, he had to crawl on his belly to get back to his fake prominence, crying senselessly at Katrina, and overall shifting self-destructedly with the rear end winds of Rove power while retaining his integrity as someone who will do anything to get public attention. If there is an SS graveyard of honor I am sure their must be a Fox cemetery somewhere for this veteran of self promotion. And some Bush descendant will kneel on it and lay roses.

Easier to envision that than this nut ever losing his job like any other real person would over the gaffes and lies in his empty career.

88. Well, if THIS counts as combat:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=&imgrefurl=http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/journalists/geraldo-rivera/&h=237&w=200&sz=22&hl=en&start=2&tbnid=nzlXDNcgCoMWlM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=87&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgeraldo%2Brivera%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26rls%3DGAPB,GAPB:2005-09,GAPB:en%26sa%3DN

In November of 1988, the Geraldo daytime talk show achieved its highest ratings ever in over thirteen million homes. Young Hate Mongers featured John Metzger of the Aryan Youth Movement, and Robert Heick of the National Front (both white), Roy Innis of the Congress of Racial Equality (black), rabbi A. Bruce Goldman (Jewish), and a New Jersey couple who claimed they'd been attacked and terrorized by skinheads. Sitting in the audience was an army of neo-Nazi skinheads representing National Resistance.

Metzger complained about "kikes" and called Innis an "uncle Tom." Innis walked over to Metzger, and placed his hands around the boy's neck. Pandemonium broke out in the studio, and within seconds Rivera was suffering from a broken nose - an injury inflicted by a chair was smashed across his face by Metzger's bodyguard.

Throughout the program, young white supremacists were taunted and goaded, being called "a bunch of young clowns." Rivera warned them not to push him too hard. Calling his guests "hate mongers," and using cockroach metaphors was Rivera's rhetorical strategy, and it certainly resulted in a brawl. Geraldo stood back and watched the violence ensue, until a chair flew across the room and collided with his face. Geraldo stepped into the ring and fought back well, throwing some terrific punches.

Geraldo, you stud.

NASA was going to send up a journalist into space. They sat down and made a list of probably candidates. Their favorite choice was Geraldo Rivera, because they wanted to test the effects of weightlessness on weightlessness.

103. Rivera is an ASS
Rivera is just a stupidass. He has proven time and time again that he is just completely stupid and clueless. Unlike Rivera Kerry actually fought in a war, risk his life, and got injuried in that war. I just pointed out that it was sad crap when people who never joined the military can call military veterans traitors. This is beginning to get ridiculous with all these Republicans and other claiming to be better and braver than the men and women who fought in the military.
