If you think Al Qaeda is a bunch of backward yokels without a serious intelligence network, then you are in the same category as some of our troops in Vietnam who though Charlie was a gaggle of unsophisticated third world that not only didn't have radios, but wouldn't understand our transmissions if they did. Bad, bad mistake.
On one level, they may be aware that we may do something - completely different to put it on the front page and rub it in.
But going after the NYT isn't the answer. Finding and prosecuting the leaker is.
