14 year old has sex with man met on MYSPACE |
|
Now normally I would never post this but I have been hear pieces and parts of this story for a week and thought that it was a pedophile....NOW I find out it's a 19 year and it was consensual sex( she now denys).....Let's all pretend that we are on the jury...what would you do? Remember in Florida it is statutory rape because she is 14. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13437619/I'll come in at the end!

It's unseemly, but I wouldn't prosecute. Particularly since it was consensual.

2. If she's under the age of consent: guilty. |
|
Who cares how they met? It happened plenty of times before myspace was even invented...

6. 14 is legal in many countries... |
|
Canada, Germany, Italy... all set age of consent at age 14. The UN recommends it be set at 15.

7. What color is he? Have to add race quotient. |

Didn't a black kid get some serious time for a much lesser spread in ages earlier this year? It was posted here, but I can't recall the details. Seemed like a black/white thing--they slammed the kid.

I'd have to sit on the jury to know for sure.

9. If she'll share the settlement with me, I favor her lawsuit. . . |
|
otherwise, gotta wonder why her mother didn't intervene well before it resulted in a f2f meeting.

10. She is under the age of consent. By definition she can't consent. |
|
That means it is statuatory(sp?) rape. Whether they met at myspace, the playground or in a bar, it doesn't matter. The big question is whether or not the gu knew or should have known she was underage.

picked her up at her High School.14 years olds are going on 20. SHE made the date. Where are her parents. Technically it is statutory rape, but I wouldn't convict. I would do jury nullification.I assume that people online lie. IF I went on Match, com and made a date ( which I have several times!) and wasn't smart enough to protect myself, I'd be an idiot. I met men at a cafe within walking distance of my apt and walked home after the dates. I was smart enough to have their work/home number and knew quit a bit about them before I went on the date. Parents are not teaching their kids to be safe, whether it's the internet or any other place.I think the parents are looking for a quick $30 million verdict. IF the parents were so concerned WHY are they not working with myspace to make the site safer?

The magic invisible line is 4 yrs in age difference...he's 19 she's 14, he's guilty of statutory rape, period...because that's not only a 4, but 5 year difference in age...here he'd be the proud winner of a prison term and sex offender status for the rest of his life... It doesn't matter how old a girl looks, or talks, or acts...the only thing that matters is how old they really are...and that is the ONLY thing that matters, because...at the age of 14, they are NOT old enough to fully understand the possible consequences of their actions, and even though they act as though they know it all, they don't...but at 19, he IS old enough to understand, fully..and that makes HIM responsible... I know a kid, that spent 7 years in prison, and now has to register as a sex offender, because he was involved with a girl of 15, when he was 19...and her parents did not press charges...the state did..she lied about her age and told him she was 16...stupid and with hormones raging, he believed her... All I can say is...these guys that are meeting girls...better make damned sure they find out for sure, how old a girl is, before they get involved...and IF they aren't trying to pull something sneaky in the first place...then why don't they ASK to meet her parents BEFORE they go on a date?? Better safe than sorry, for everyone involved... windbreeze

14. That's why I asked....HOW would you vote.........?? |
|
I was one of those 14 year olds who was asked out by a family friend's son at 19 ( Back in 1964!). He was in the Navy, a nice guy and we dated a few times. I would want to know the background of the accused. Has he had problems with this before? The girl is out of control......If I was the mother I would care more about my daughter going out with a stranger ,she could have ended up in a landfill dead, rather that she had sex. My guess this is not the first time. I am not going to brand a good (guy) kid a sex offender for the rest of his life because he didn't ask for ID.
Where are all the parents of boys? Doesn't she and the mother have any responsibility? F*CK ID's....they all have fake ones.

13. Guys need to check ID's |
|
The first time I said that, I thought I was saying something sarcastic and flip. I was quite surprised when my son piped up, about 25 at the time, and said "we do". He was a wildland firefighter at the time, no girls got anywhere near those guys (on R&R) without ID's. The crew bosses made sure of it.
So seriously guys, check their ID's. If they don't have one, you're asking for trouble.

15. Sounds like she was upset he wasn't a football player..... |
|
"The girl says a 19-year-old man lied in his profile about being a senior on a football team to gain her trust and phone number."
There have been 19 year old seniors in Highschool.
