Part of Newark Terminal Briefly Closed
Part of a terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport was evacuated Monday night as authorities investigated a suspicious package.

Police and a bomb squad responded to a suspicious package report at about 8:20 p.m., said Tiffany Townsend, spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport.

The package was declared safe, and the closed part of the terminal was reopened at about 9:40 p.m., Townsend said.

The closure at one of the New York City area's three major airports compounded weather-related delays from heavy rains on the East Coast.
