2. Actually the time to do that is immediately after the idiots |
|
pass their stupid unenforceable fascist amendment. Every flag burned should be just enough off regulation to not qualify under whatever dumb fascist law is enacted as a consequence of this idiocy.

11. Exactly. Choke the courts with this nonsense. |
|
Right after they pass it (I don't think the amendment itself has a chance in hell of passing, but if it did...) that is when we need MILLIONS of people in the streets burning flags. Make 'em arrest and process EVERYBODY. Choke the whole bloody system and grind it to a halt. It will illustrate beautifully what stupid, ignorant fools the conservatives are.
BTW...wouldn't it be perfectly constitutional and quite legal to simply pass a law requiring all new flags be flame-proof? They do it with pajamas, why not flags? Seems a lot less draconian than an Constitutional Amendment. Oh, but then it might bring up that ugle issue about the flag being merely a symbol that can be made out of anything. It would make their whole argument just that much more dopey.
Oh, and another btw...I saw some big fat clown the other day wearing a jacket made out of a flag. Star field on one shoulder, red and white stripes covering the rest of him. If I had tossed gasoline on him and threw him a match, which law would trump, the CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT banning flag burning, or the mere state law against killing?

I understand your sentiment, but right now we have republicans right where we want them on this...promoting an amendment few people want, for purely partisan/distraction purposes. Right now they're stuck having to explain the urgency of a Constitutional Amendment for a problem we do not face. Put ten thousand flag-burning liberal in Washington and I think you'll see all sorts of people finally seeing a need for the amendment. In short, a stunt like that would blow up in our faces big time. If I were Rove, I'd be salivating at the proposition!

and the voice-over guy says, in his sinister voice, "Senator Commie-Freak wouldn't even vote to support America's flag, even in this time of terrorism and war. (Images of flag burnings, images of the Iraq war). Whose side is he really on?"

10. It may be "right where we want them" |
|
But who will see that? Who's seen that in the last six years, when they've promoted so many other things for purely partisan/distraction purposes? Hell, this entire Administration has been based on distraction and do the masses see that? No. The White House yells "Terror!" and the people are terrified. They yell "Gay marriage!" and everyone is freaking out about marriage. They yell "Illegal Immigrant!" and all eyes rush to the border. Meanwhile, they do whatever the hell they want because everyone is looking the other way. If they're "right where we want them", how do you suggest we take advantage of that? Nothing's made much of a dent in them so far, though I will admit to a slow erosion.

8. I was thinking these bozos should make moves |
|
to protect our Constitution, Bill of Rights and Election Reform before they put anything into protecting the piece of material we call a flag. Without those things (the Constitution, Bill of Rights and election reform), our flag stands for nothing. IMO, what they're doing is trying to wipe their butts with it - protect it with one hand, but trample what we stand for with every other appendange they have. It's smoke and mirrors!
OK, I'll step down off my soapbox now.
