Latest Selective Service ads: "Rumors of military draft are false" |
|
I posted a few days ago about how the AM radio stations in Orlando have been flooded with advertisements geared toward 18-year-old men telling them to register immediately. The most egregious one had been the one that tells these kids to "Prove you're a man."
Well, today I heard a new one that stooped to a new low. It had a teenage guy talking about how he heard at school that there would be a draft and that all the 18-year-olds would have to go to war. Then he said that these rumors were false and that there would be "plenty of notice" before a draft.
I'm hoping that these ads are isolated and that the military isn't doing a full-court press. I can't ever remember hearing this many before.

1. OK. I'm dense. How does this motivate kids to register? |

4. It gives them a false sense of 'control'. |
|
As if they might be safer and able to control their military destiny more by volunteering rather than being drafted.
It is a tactic that has been used before.

2. Reminds me of the push before the War Between the States.. |
|
"Sign up now and avoid Conscription"
and Vietnam.. "Sign up now and avoid the Draft"
I joined the Navy and still spent 39 months in combat.
Whe are headed down the road to ScareyVille.

I still think the first part of next year. They have ruined the all volunteer force, they will need the draft. plus a conscripted force is a lot cheaper.

5. there were some false rumors |

big push before the 2004 election saying there was going to be a draft beginning on a certain date in 2005.
but regarding the recruting ads, I agree their methods are awful.

Any time this administration says "we won't" by now we know that means "we will". Yes, as it was during the VietNam War they will take the bodies they need and if it goes the way it did back then, they will take them from the poorest red states because most of the parents won't kick up much fuss. Hold on, the draft is coming.

8. There is nothing wrong... |

we don't want to hurt you. We just want you to register and to make it easier for when there is a draft, so that we can send you off to be blown up. We don't want to hurt you now, just later.

10. Forgot to mention the "you can't get student loans" threats, too. |
|
That's an important part of the hook.
