Isn 't Peter Daou a DUer?
WASHINGTON--Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign has hired Peter Daou, one of the most prominent political bloggers in the nation, to help disseminate her message in a forum that has not always been that hospitable to her.

The move underscores the degree to which bloggers--the authors of Web logs, or blogs--have begun to transform American politics. In many cases, candidates have even set up their own blogs, with staffers answering questions, presenting policy proposals and posting campaign literature and videos.

7. He was also big on John Kerry's campaign
and I believe he got Will Pitt in the door to the famous Al Franken's apartment sit down between Kerry and the left/liberal media gantlet.

11. you believe correctly....
I remember his posts quite well. He had interesting experiences in Lebanon(?) he used to talk about also. I think he pretty much stopped posting around the time he got the gig at salon.com.

8. He surely has his work cut out for him...
...if Hillary wants to rehabilitate her image among Liberal bloggers. That whole "support the war" meme will have to be the first thing to go.

that they are paid for the opinions they are expressing?

5. Seems like that would be what an ethical person would do
I think I'll change my sig line: I am not the paid mouthpiece of anyone except myself.

6. yes and no
yes because it's the right thing to do.

No because people should be able to make decisions based on critical analysis.

We have lots of people on DU paid for their opinions. Anyone seeking donations here for their pet causes is getting paid for their opinion IMO.

Kos has just been accused of being the kingpin of the left blogs. I find it insulting that anyone would think I make my decision based on his says so.

If people lay out a strong argument based on facts and truth, I don't really care if they are paid or not.

9. Advocating for pet causes is not the same as
being paid to blog. The person advocating for a 'pet cause' may receive satisfaction from donations, but not actual income. One can assume that such an advocate actually believes what he writes, although of course and as always critical analysis of the merits of the argument are required.

With the paid advocate the situation is quite different. There is no basis for an assumption of honesty on the part of the author. The author is in fact compensated directly for his writings and for the effectiveness of his arguments.

Why is this any different that the outrage we expressed here about the use of paid journalists by the bush cabal? Any journalist who is being paid directly by an organization to advocate positions on behalf of that organization who does not disclose that relationship is considered to be beneath contempt and a dishonest lout. Why would we treat bloggers any differently?

13. to many assumptions
for your argument to hold water imo.

Fist, why would you assume that a pet cause that generates large donations is one that would be championed by anyone other than someone looking for a slice.

Second, the MAJOR difference between bloggers and Admin shills is who is paying.

TAX dollars being paid to propagandists is where the outrage came from.

The nypost pays writers for right leaning opinion we expect, and accept that.

10. Daou's article on Salon where he discusses his hiring by Clinton's team:

And in the comments: "The Daou Report will continue uninterrupted. However, I will be taking a hiatus from posting in the top section of the site. Peter Daou"

12. How anyone could have been for Kerry and then be for Ms. Clinton
I will never understand. SORRY. Don't get it. Must be that money talking louder than common sense and a soul again. Yes, I remember PeteNYC. Yes, all through the campaign season of 2004. Boy and look HOW HARD Mr. Clinton has worked to defeat Bush as well. UGH. No no no. Not going to win this blog reader over. No matter how clever the words. Unity and loyalty my ass. First show some to Democratic principals. I guess that's an oxymoron. Then I guess you would deserve it back, dear Clintons. No matter Kerry's many flaws, he is four hundred times the DEMOCRAT they have shown themselves to be.
