Democrats, Progressives, Greens, DLCers, Social Democrats, Democratic ...
Democrats, Progressives, Greens, DLCers, Social Democrats, Democratic Socialists -- even true conservatives and true Republicans,

After today's speech, is there really any question about who can unite us to save our country?

Today Al Gore gave the speech of the decade, a revelation of truth-telling and honesty that no mainstream politician has been capable of in the last five years.

Al Gore is not the Al Gore of 2000 anymore. Just as Bobby Kennedy was transformed by the assassination of his brother and Martin Luther King was transformed at the famous "kitchen conversion," and Malcolm X was transformed by the hajj, Al Gore has been transformed by the theft of democracy in 2000 in which he was the central player.

But more importantly, aren't his prescription -- about re-aligning power, protecting the environment, and above all the people re-asserting power -- intuitively obvious?

I have never felt the desire to fall behind an American politician, but today I would follow Al Gore into battle.

Who else is with him?

usually wooden performances. Never again. The man was brilliant and inspiring!

10. Green for Gore?
In 2000, as a registered unaffiliated, I worked hard for Al Gore. I've always like him. He is very good on the environment.

After the collapse of the Democratic Party after 9/11, I joined the Green Party. You see, I believe in strongly battling against tyranny ... in 2002, I sadly saw so much of the Democratic Party become just a piece of the Bush 'war party'. And we may be seeing that again on the Iran situation. (See www.Earthside.com)

In 2004, even though I was a Colorado elector for David Cobb, because Colorado was a "swing-state", I went door-to-door and voted for John Kerry -- because Bush is the enemy of free America.

I could enthusiastically support an Al Gore candidacy for president in 2008.

I just was. I supported Gore before, but even more so now. A true patriot leader.

Simply startling truth to power.

Into battle...

13. I always have been
The other Gore had been clouded and controlled by the more DINO members of the DLC. Many of us knew he has a progressive heart. It's Al's nomination, if he'll let it be, and he sounds like a man compelled to take action.

21. To be honest I don't think he was that progressive, except on
the environment. I honestly think he was transformed by 2000. There was a long article about him in the New Yorker about a year later called Al Gore in exile. That was the bearded Al Gore phase.

He definitely went through some kind of personal and political crisis that has transformed him.

22. If you read his earlier writing, the progressiveness is there
His actions haven't always followed his conscience. I think we're seeing the man unfettered by the input of others.

Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 01:52 PM by HamdenRice
I just found this site Al Gore 08 that already has the full text transcript:

http://www.algore04.com/

On edit: not sure it's accurate, seems shorter. Text as prepared in other words.

16. Gore has connected all the Dots and WOW! He has the confidence to
speak to the EVIL that he was hesitant to do before. (former White House Officials are reluctant to criticize because of protocol)

It's obvious he's been seeing what we all here have since 2000 and he just couldn't hold it in any longer. If he didn't speak out NOW I think he felt that the whole country will be in the crapper. He is using all his strength to give a focus to our Democrats. He's given us talking points we can use. If our Democrats don't stand up with him...then many of us will go and stand by his side to take our country back!
