1. I just called that office.
Gore does not plan to run in '08, he does not have a public e-mail, the office in Nashville is private to handle his business affairs...

That said, after a speech like he gave today, I'm willing to bet that if We the People ask him to represent us, he will have to.

Gore in '08!!!!

PS I am drafting a letter to his office now. The address in the original thread is correct.

19. Right, everyone says that.
It's still two years away. If he said that he was definitely running, the campaign against him would start TODAY. That is why candidates always say that.

Dear Honorable Al Gore,

If there ever was a time to be brave like you described in your speech now is the time. We have asked much of you in face of your stolen election, but, there is more work to be done and you are the knight in shining armor that this country so badly needs.

Please consider running for election in 2008 and we will not abandon you. In the face of the corporate media, we will have your back. When the corrupt try to destroy you, which they will try, we will stand beside you, in the streets if need be. You are our rightful leader whom we actually chose in 2000.

Stand up for us and we will not let you down.

Please run in 2008, the time is now. The darkness grows ever ominous.

Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 02:47 PM by American liberal
I haven't mailed it yet. For instance, is Mr. Gore the correct form of address? Thanks!

On edit: Oops! I forget to paste the text! duh!

Dear Mr. Gore:

Because the company I work for acknowledges Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I was granted the rare privilege of tuning into your speech to the Daughters of the American Revolution today. I was so moved by your powerful oratory, I was compelled to write and ask you to consider running for office again in 2008.

Like you, not only am I dismayed by the actions of the current administration, I am also troubled by the lack of any concerted opposition to the Bush administration’s policies. While listening to you today, I felt for the first time in a long time that here was someone in the public forum speaking truth and representing my interests. You gave voice to just about everything the grass-roots has been grumbling and boiling over about since the election was stolen from you in 2000.

Please, Mr. Gore, if we drum up enough grassroots support, would you consider running again? Among many quote-worthy moments in your speech today, you said that it is up to We the People to take back this great Republic, to stand up to this growing tyranny, and restore constitutional values to the governance of this great country. Well, sir, we need leadership. We need someone who can represent our interests and who can fight against the corruption and oppressive lobbying interests backed by the multinationals. I respectfully ask, as just one regular, taxpaying American citizen among many, I ask you to be that voice of reason against all the lies and propaganda.

As a show of my support for and faith in your candidacy, I am enclosing $1 in support of your campaign. If you do run, I will actively volunteer on your behalf (need help in Communications? That’s my background). If you don’t, please donate my contribution to the appropriate civil rights or civil liberties organization. Please know, Mr. Gore, that in this time of darkness, America needs you now more than ever.

The Office of the Honorable Al Gore

Dear Mr. Gore:

Because the company I work for acknowledges Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I was granted the rare privilege of tuning into your speech to the American Constitution Society and the Liberty Coalition today at the DAR Hall in Washington, DC. I was so moved by your powerful oratory, I was compelled to write and ask you to consider running for office again in 2008.

"Dear Mr. President,

I listened to your speech on 1/16/06 with honor, anger, and hope.
Please hear your country's collective cries and run for President in 2008.
The US needs a visionary now more than ever.
My family and I will support all your future public efforts as we believe you are the true President.
Thank you for your service to America.

Best Regards, etc."

Honestly, it felt good to handwrite a letter. Sometimes using the computer for everything is so convenient you lose your heart and spirit.

53. as a former Congressional staffer, I can tell you that . . .
HOW you communicate with your representative or senator counts . . . there's an informal rating system that goes something like this (from least effective to most effective) . . . I'm sure that Al Gore's office would use a similar ranking for their incoming communications . . .

LEAST EFFECTIVE
- mass e-mails
- individualized e-mails
- form letter faxes
- individualized faxes
- personal letters, typed and mailed
- personal letters, hand-written and mailed (most effective BY FAR)
MOST EFFECTIVE

telephone calls can fall anywhere on the scale, but are generally near the "Least" end . . . for the most part, they are simply tallied as being for or against an issue . . . very seldom is the content of a call communicated to the member or senator . . .

so . . . the most effective way to influence Gore would be tens of thousands of individually composed letters, preferably hand-written -- but typed if your penmanship is as bad as mine . . .

Dear Honorable Al Gore,
I recently had the pleasure of hearing your speech on January 16, 2006 and feel compelled to write you in order to urge you to run for President in the 2008 election. I was never more moved by a speech than by the one you gave. It left me feeling a renewed hope I haven’t felt in years. I was weeping by the end of it. You have recognized the enemy and have plainly pointed out how it must be and can be defeated. I am offering my money, time, and commitment to you as a foot soldier in this effort to restore our Democracy.
Sincerely,

68. done -- i told him my 2000 story
during the 2000 mess i was starting a marketing communications company for healthcare here in nashville. i had been recruited by a hotshot AE and had lots of freelance keeping me company thru the cable news coverage of the florida recounts.

on the night of gore's concession, my husband and i were devastated. i was crying, which isn't such an amazing thing, but so was hubby. hotshot AE was standing behind the couch wanting to get back to the studio to finish some video editing. then, the sonofabitch says, 'that's GREAT news! we're gonna make a KILLING in healthcare!"

to him, the election was like a giant pinata, and with bushco the candies would be free-flowing. how sick is that? to gladly trade our democratic republic for a few beads.

i asked him to leave and soon parted ways. i felt like i had slogged thru the fuckiing lord of the rings trilology only to find that Frodo Lost. such a dark night, that was.

al gore, to me, represents the best of our democratic impulse. he's a statesman in a world of politicians. i love him in the way you love all tragic heroes, and dammit -- his story isn't over yet.
