RNC response to Gore's speech
http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=59313

<snip>
"Al Gore's incessant need to insert himself in the headline of the day is almost as glaring as his lack of understanding of the threats facing America. While the President works to protect Americans from terrorists, Democrats deliver no solutions of their own, only diatribes laden with inaccuracies and anger." --Tracey Schmitt, RNC Press Secretary

<snip>

Clinton/Gore Administration Used Warrantless Searches:

Clinton Administration Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick: "(T)he Department Of Justice Believes, And The Case Law Supports, That The President Has Inherent Authority To Conduct Warrantless Physical Searches For Foreign Intelligence Purposes And That The President May, As Has Been Done, Delegate This Authority To The Attorney General." (Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick, Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence, U.S. House Of Representatives, Testimony, 7/14/94)

In 1994, President Clinton Expanded The Use Of Warrantless Searches To Entirely Domestic Situations With No Foreign Intelligence Value Whatsoever. In A Radio Address Promoting A Crime- Fighting Bill, Mr. Clinton Discussed A New Policy To Conduct Warrantless Searches In Highly Violent Public Housing Projects." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05)

"One Of The Most Famous Examples Of Warrantless Searches In Recent Years Was The Investigation Of CIA Official Aldrich H. Ames, Who Ultimately Pleaded Guilty To Spying For The Former Soviet Union. That Case Was Largely Built Upon Secret Searches Of Ames' Home And Office In 1993, Conducted Without Federal Warrants." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05)

They are afraid of him and of his call for accountability.

10. Yep
The more they scream the more coverage Gore will get and his speech. They already know a lot of the public doesn't like Bush's wiretapping.

25. He is a threat to them.
The dems do seem to be missing a leader (I was going to say a set of balls).

The best asset this administration has is the lack of a leader on our part.

I truly believe, a principled liberal and a prinicpled conservative agree on the central issues of the day. This pretender gets by on our inability to lead in another direction.

I am not surprised the RNC reacted so quickly.

I will be absolutely shocked if the RNC controls congress by the end of the year.

But we HAVE to have a real leader.

Joe

Were they truly 'warrantless?' If not, there needs to be a rapid response to these lies.

20. All disinformation, of course.
Physical searches for foreign intel didn't need a warrant at that time, so Clinton was obeying the law. When the law was changed, Clinton FOLLOWED THE LAW!!!

This:
"Al Gore's incessant need to insert himself in the headline of the day is almost as glaring as his lack of understanding of the threats facing America. While the President works to protect Americans from terrorists, Democrats deliver no solutions of their own, only diatribes laden with inaccuracies and anger."

is such a piece of shit, it always amazes me how the MSM can pass this along with a straight face. How long do you think it will be before Bush steals some of Gore's ideas and claims them for his own (while actually rendering them toothless).

Are they saying they don't believe President Gore even has a right to speak out?

He is a former United States Congressman. Former Vice President. He was elected President in 2000. But most importantly, he is an American citizen like all of us.

The right for him to speak out is his birth right. It is all our birth rights.

And what's more, he has EARNED the right to speak out by the service he has given his country.

CLINTON NEVER DID WARRENTLESS EAVESDROPPING/WIRETAPPING.
Clinton found the loophole and filed to close it and it was closed in 94. Seems they forget the word "eavesdropping" was in the early FISA Law and did not include "searches" -something that was fixed by Clinton.

CLINTON NEVER DID WARRENTLESS EAVESDROPPING/WIRETAPPING.

'Hogwart wrote: "We are at war with an enemy that will stop at nothing to change our way of life" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps you Bush Loyalists haven't noticed, but the enemy already HAS changed our way of life. We now ignore Geneva Conventions, we confine people indefinitely without any legal representation, the Veep wants to be able to use torture and now Bush Loyalists are defending the President's right to spy on American citizens without a warrant.'

37. Good Point....which makes it all the more suspicious that Barr was on
sattelite feed instead of showing up in person. If he'd shown up in person..media would have had to report and the MSM would have sent reporters to make sure they covered the "spin." I'll bet the MSM knew it was sattelite (which was kind of a cop out by Barr) and the Bushies conveniently cut it.

Too much of a coincidence on this one to be :tinfoilhat: me thinks...and Gore left sitting on that stage for so long which could have interrupted the timing and delivery of the speech.

35. Sounds as if they're defecating themselves
If they didn't see former Vice President Gore as a threat, they wouldn't have responded so quickly, or gone to such much trouble to dig up dirt.

The RNC needs to find more reputable sources than The Washington Times.

BTW, any persons or organizations that have a problem with Aldrich Ames (an individual who literally sold this country and its secrets down the river many times over), who was tried and convicted of TREASON against the United States (and is currently serving a life sentence) being put under surveillance: Get the hell out ASAP. You're no American. You don't love America; you despise it. In fact, you're every bit as amoral, loathesome, despicable and common as Ames was/is.

Just to offer a little clarification to the RNC and its minions: The entire country wasn't eavesdropped upon to capture Ames - and his surveillance was done within the breadth and scope of the law, something you crooks can't seem to comprehend.

43. Three points:
(1)-Once again (as in his recent but almost totally suppressed warning that American liberty has never been in greater jeopardy), President Gore appears to be positioning himself to head a United States government in exile: a truly vital move if Bush uses another terrorist attack as a Reichstag Fire to cancel the fall Congressional elections or the 2008 presidential election. As the nation's only elected president ever denied office by a fascist coup, Gore is the ONLY logical chief executive of such a government (headquartered perhaps in Canada?) -- a point I make in response to the DUers who are jeering at his reappearance on the political scene.

(2)-While a few other Democrats (including John Edwards) have dared speak out against Bush's illegal surveillance and secret-police intimidation of Americans, none have the media stature of Gore, which gives him a decided advantage in terms of getting the message out (though that did not prevent total censorship of his no-greater-jeopardy speech in November).

(3)-Unfortunately the Republicans are correct in their implicit claim the Clinton Administration had no respect for the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights: nearly everything in the so-called Patriot Act was originally proposed by Clinton Attorney General Janet Reno and -- to the eternal credit of the American Civil Liberties Union -- was as harshly condemned then as now by the ACLU and its allies (I am a longtime ACLU member). The difference between then and now was that in those days, Congress listened: there were enough libertarians in office to defeat Reno's proposals -- as I remember, the 1998 crime bill. Most of these libertarians were Democrats, but a few were the last surviving members of a species that is now wholly extinct: Republicans who aren't Nazis at heart.

Democratic and particularly Democratic Leadership Council complicity in the earlier Clinton/Reno effort to subvert the Constitution is no doubt why so many Democrats are too compromised to speak up now.
