OMG...did Gore look and sound PRESIDENTIAL today OR WHAT!? |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 06:00 PM by KzooDem
No high-tech, video wall backdrops. No vapid, hollow, jingoisitic slogans electronically displayed. No manufactured aura to detract from the fact that the speaker is an illiterate boob who can only mumble mono-syllabic, senseless babble.
Just a grouping of American flags behind a man who can orate like a president ought to be able to orate.
WE NEED TO DO WHAT WE CAN TO GET THIS MAN BACK IN THE RACE.

and asking, "Who was that masked man?" I mean, Gore came out of nowhere and blindsided them. They thought they had control of everyone, but the cracks are showing and information is going to begin trickling down. That's one "trickle down" theory I'll accept. I'd love to see today's cartoons. They are going to be great!

America is going to wake up to one awful hangover and no aspirin. We will pay for this for a long time to come. I guess it's safe to say that "our long nightmare of peace and prosperity is finally over."
Now we just have to salvage what we can for our children and grand children.

we don't expect to be impressed in any respect by our president. Even the lowliest member of the House or a third rate bureaucrat or some volunteer on Fox makes more sense and provides more confidence than Bush.
He's like a pain that we have learned to live with. After a while we forget what health was like until we see an old movie of us on the basketball court.

He can memorize an entire speech & flawlessly convey it to the audience as though it were off the cuff.
Very impressive & presidential compared to the dunce who paid Diebold & several state secretaries to grab the presidency for him twice in a row.
No need to wonder about why Bush & Cheney are going to fundraisers every other week. Lots of payoffs to sustain their corrupted & illegitimate business.

The last big speech I remember Gore for was on the media. In searching for that speech I came across this link with many links on Al Gore's recent speeches- http://www.failureisimpossible.com/needtoknow/whoreallywon.htmThe speech I was concerned with seems to be talked about in this Truthout report- http://www.truthout.org/docs_03/111803H.shtmlThe above link provides a link concerning a speech given by Gore at Constitutional Hall just days before that- http://www.truthout.org/docs_03/111103C.shtml

Why does this matter?
Because it means he's not planning to run again.
Of course how much the candidate weighs should be irrelevant, just as how tall he is and how much hair he has shouldn't matter. But we all know that it does matter, and I'm quite sure that Al Gore knows it matters.
In 2000, he was notably fit and trim. The fact that he hasn't made an effort to get back to that shape now tells me that he's not planning to run for the presidency in 2008. He may change his mind, and I'll be watching his physical appearance for a clue to his intentions.
I loved his speech, but I want him to run. I'll happily vote for him if he does, just as I did in 2000, but it's now clear to me that, at least right now, he's not planning to run.
So, sadly, it doesn't really matter how presidential he looks to you or me.

28. Some serve by not running. If Al backs another Howard Dean in 2008... |
|
and Dean and Kerry back that person - that will be service of a tremendous nature. I think Dean purposively emphasized that by taking the reigns of the DNC he was forever giving up Presidential aspirations. I think you have to give up the aspirations to be taken seriously. I am not being cynical here - just saying that anytime anyone speaks publically everyone is watching and listening for why doing so is in that person's interest and that makes what they say immediately suspect.
The core truth here is that celebrities don't accomplish the things that really matter in this world - they just get the attention. I would love to have a bulky or skinny, balding man (or woman) be the next President of the US. I am so, so, so sick of charming (which is a verb meaning 'to manipulate' rather than an adjective).

|
He promised not to seek the nomination while he served as DNC chief. That doesn't rule out a third party independant run, or running when he finishes his term as DNC chair.

Didn't mean to imply he shouldn't. I thought he had stated that would not run - just to make the point that he is now working not in his own self-interest.

Welcome back. Finally, a real man has stood up to the plate. Maybe these five years of virtual exile have strengthened him. How a person deals with setbacks is the indication of his or her character. Gore has struggled. Let's hope he can keep standing up to Bush and fascism as he did today. I said I never would, but this speech has changed my mind -- I will support this man for the presidency again provided he continues to fight for our rights with the integrity and courage he showed today. Let's see what he does now. Is he willing to step into the moral void and lead? If so, he will be president in 2008.

in the primaries, in their ever spineless, visionless attempt to be 'smart' and appeal to 'swing voters.' Realistically, we all know that Al Gore would have a hard time winning a presidential poll on DU. It's sad.

Just got home in fact.
It was outstanding - more powerful than portrayed on the C-Span broadcast. I stopped at my son's house on the way home and he was watching a copy he had saved when I got there.
The speech was moving, there was more audience feedback than C-Span's cameras, and more importantly mikes, captured.
It was truly outstanding.

If some don't feel he is the greatest orator, I can understand. But the power of truth behind what he presented today should have made it plainly evident that the man most qualified to be elected president in 2000 and 2008 was, and is, Al Gore.

40. He didn't look Presidential. He looked...WHAT. |
|
As in, "WHAT does he think he's doing?" Or "WHAT would an ordinary person, so accustomed to sound bytes and sharp decisions, make of all this pretentious oration?" or "WHAT does it say about the Democratic Party that they're willing to put forth a guy who's still as stiff and unwatchable as he was during his run?"
But mostly it said to me, "WHAT will we do when one of the wishy-washy choices being put forth gets the Democratic nomination, and the Republicans steamroller over him with another term by Bush or someone even worse?" (And don't think they won't try to lift that two-term-only business; they like Bush.)
