3. If Al Gore makes a speech in a forest and nobody mentions it...
Sigh...

Seems to me there will be two types of MSM coverage of Gore's speech:

(a) None; and
(b) Al Gore is angry and/or crazy and/or doesn't represent the opinions of "real" Americans.

I hope I'm wrong.

9. Isn't that precisely what Al Gore was arguing, though?
His whole bit on television, Habermasian as his position now is, seemed to point to precisely this response. The question is, why are we still hoping against hope for television coverage?

23. Exactly. Given the commercialization of the MSM
and its inability and/or unwillingness to contribute anything to a rational public discourse, it's foolish to assume they'd cover a speech that addresses that topic -- any more than they'd cover a speech by Habermas himself. We've been conditioned to believe nothing matters unless it's on the teevee, so we are disappointed when something significant like Gore's speech gets scant coverage, but nothing will change unless we can effectively bypass the MSM altogether.

16. NBC devoted about 5 minutes to it
Brian Williams gave a brief summary of the "hard-hitting" speech & Gore's demand for an independent counsel; then played a brief clip of Gore saying the President had broken the law. They also included that Gore chose MLK day because MLK was also a victim of illegal wiretaps. I was very surprised to see it - pretty good coverage!

19. NBC was pretty good
I suppose they could have said that Gore was declared the loser by the Supreme Court in a disputed election, which, had all the votes been counted, he would have clearly won--but it was decent coverage.

11. CNN had bits of his speech earlier this afternoon at 5PM
of course Bay Buchanan had to contradict everything he said and call it a speech made by someone who is preparing to run for the presidency in '08.

that is the thing that gets to me... they cannot let gore's, or murtha's, or howard dean's, or anyone else's words stand on their own merit. they have to knock them down with the likes of buchanan (pat, or bay), tweety matthews, wolf blitzer, you name it. they even said that republicans are now saying gore's words are words of anger and (i've forgetten what else they said about gore's speech, maybe they called it sour grapes or something like that--that is the implication anyhow).

i bet bush was snickering this morning as he read the emancipation proclamation as he falsely and hypocritically "honored" MLK.

27. ABC is pretty much a rightwing religous news organization now
for godsakes, even Moran, their White House correspondent, is a graduate of a "conservative" journalism program. Besides, that network can't run a newscast without a "special report" on today's evangelicals.
