Love America? Then be a REAL American.
How difficult is this to understand? Hating the GOP and their corrupt, seemingly incompetent piloting of our ship of state has nothing to do with hating America. It's not about blaming America...we don't blame America. We blame them, the people who feed them barrels and barrels of cash, and exploit us and foreign workers all in the name of profit. Greed and blood money, that's all it is.

America was, at one time, the hope of the world! A land where justice mattered, and even a poor immigrant might get a fair shake. Now it is but a cruel mockery of itself, a hollow pretender in the skeletal drag of the grim reaper, cloaked in an American flag. It's scythe is the bloody tool of oppression and pre-emptive war, its grin that of a chuckling menace sitting in the white house pretending to look for WMDs under his desk.

We LOVE America... We believe in the Constitution and the rule of law. They HATE America's promise of prosperity, of equality, and of fairness. If they can't grind people underfoot because they're a different color or creed in the open, they'll hold them down by under-funding their schools and denying them educational opportunities, then throw them in the cut-rate bin by destroying any possibility for upward mobility for all the lower classes.

They want workers, robots of flesh, bone, and blood who will work as many hours as required, then go home and sit vacant-eyed in front of the propaganda machine of FOX News and the other corporate media, too numb of mind and body to realize they're being deceived.

This isn't America. It's some science fiction drama of some alternate Soviet Union, a Nazi Germany for the 21st Century--a betrayal of the sacrifices of those who marched off to fight and die on European battlefields, or in the fierce combat of the Pacific Islands.

They thumb their noses at the world, the world that gave the U.S. birth and once looked up at us, and at the founding fathers that used their own personal knowledge of history to craft a document that could give us the tools to pursue freedom and hope.

That this nation could go so far astray from the dream it once had is both frightening and distressing.

There is no room for apathy, no peace for the complacent or compliant. This is a war against America and Americans, waged by the very people who were elected to serve.

Pay attention, dammit! All we're asking is for you to PAY ATTENTION! Illegal war. Torture. Unlawful detention. Election fraud. Systemic libel and slander. Underhanded payoffs. The discarding of damaged soldiers into a system that isn't funded well enough to handle it. The abandonment of New Orleans. FUEL PRICES...and record profits for the oil companies. The paying of journalists (with OUR money) to tell the stories THEY want told.

How is this not corruption? How can you remain silent? You--in fact, all of us--are mere fodder for them. Rabble. Good for work, and for war, and for buying the products sold by their corporate sponsors, but not good enough to actually have a voice in the decisions of government.

It is THEY who betray America...every day that they're in office, robbing our treasury, robbing our future, robbing America of its legacy.

Look. See. Understand.

Remember what America was.

WAKE THE FUCK UP!

2. It's already there, under another title...
I posted it this weekend and it got no attention whatsoever. So I decided to repost it today and see if it went anywhere.

I might delete the old one and replace it with this one though, depending on whether I get many responses. :)

3. I'm wide awake
I know very well that what we have now is not the real America. It is a distorted, mangled, twisted version of America. I am neither silent nor apathetic. I'm p*ssed off and fighting. :grr:

4. I know it...
And as you know, I write this stuff to be passed along to those who might not yet have been roused from their slumber.

That's me, the literary alarm clock.

:D

6. very good.
Loving America is NOT waving a flag or wearing a flag or expressing "love it (agree with me in all my narrow views) or leave it".

7. The freeper mentality is a "Yay team! Hurray for our side!" mentality
Unfortunately, we pay more attention to team sports than to our own history and glorify "team players" and despise mavericks in everyday life.

I used to think that one of my relatives was crazy when she said that the purpose of the overwhelming emphasis on sports in high school was to turn boys into physically fit cannon fodder and unquestioning followers of "the coach", but now I'm not so sure.

8. I think your relative was exactly right...
Of course, that's coming from a confirmed maverick from the get-go. I played baseball when I was a kid, but was no fan of other sports.

As I said in one of my rants. Marx called religion the opiate of the masses. These days, in America, it's probably sports.
