Finally one called in and said she helped clean her church. Nice but not quite as selfless as doing something that helps others but not yourself directly.

I'll never forget the interview with Laura Bush in the early months of George Bush's presidency. There was a teacher shortage because the Clinton years had produced such a great economy, that people were opting for better paying jobs. Laura was asked how George would stem this shortage. Laura's response suggested that she believed that there were people out there that were genetically tempered for this kind of nurturing job and that we should find them among the military people.
What Laura suggests is what I always suspected about anarchist, Libertarian style Republicans. They always believed that the "nurturing" people in society would continue to do the menial work with lower pay, while the greedy would be free to exploit and push the edges of social stability for personal gain. All under the premise, of course, that their exploitation would spur the economy.

The Cricket is a fine singer who can keep a long phrase going. He sings about drinking, but he doesn't do as other birdies do, who go elsewhere when it gets too hot, the cricket is always jumping around and when it gets hot he sings on his own, of love.

6. Brian: "Do you have kids?" "No, but I have 5 cats & a husband." |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 06:29 AM by CottonBear
I love it! The lady was very nice and pleasant! I wonder though, why would it matter to Brian if she has kids?
The next caller, a man, volunteers at a no-kill animal shelter. A possible Republican called in: a boy scout leader of some sort. He may not be a Republican. I'm not sure how the calls are being sorted this morning.
Did y'all see Brian go over the best seller books list? Someone should call in and mention how the conservative book clubs buy up books in bulk and then sell them for pennies on the dollar to boost sales. I personally know of no one who buys those crappy books.

20. Maybe because it's harder to find time to volunteer |
|
when you work and have children?
I know I don't get to volunteer for much more than political candidates now-a-days between volunteering to make sure my son gets to sporting practices and day camps, volunteering to read with him and help him with his homework and volunteering to give him the tools necessary to be a productive human when he grows up.
It's not an excuse, mind you, but it is very difficult to do a lot of altruistic work when you're trying to be a good parent and wife and employee.

23. Oh no, another MAC zealot! |
|
You might be right, though. MAC has always been better from my point of view (I've never used one, I've just read up on the issue) but boatloads of software would run on PC and not much on MAC. That made PC the best choice. But now that's changing, and I've been thinking I might rethink the issue.
I'm cheap. Gotta Dell PC that had Windows 98 SE when I bought it, and I've upgraded to XP. So my speaker problem is, I got no driver for my speakers that runs on XP. I think I've found a driver I can use, but it took a lot of research to find it. It sure didn't come from the manufacturer.
I had a similar problem with my HP Deskjet 895 Cxi printer. HP came up with a generic driver for their printers on XP, and now I can't print banners. Otherwise I'm OK.
I guess I could just replace my printer and speakers, or the whole setup for that matter. But it's kinda fun figuring these things out, if you have the time and patience.

They pay someone to do most of what the Democrats use volunteer work for. As far as community service, that stuff is beneath republicans.

12. You don't get it. Volunteer work is immoral. |
|
If you do something for a person who needs help, you're just fostering their dependency. You should save your altruism for someone who deserves it--like a rich person. Howcome nobody understands the problems of the rich?

Living in a largely Republican area and running a program that depends on volunteerism -(I have the services of about 30 volunteers per week) - only 2 appear to be Republican - and those 2 are more of the old-style conservatives. Bushites look down equally on the volunteers & the recipients of our services for some reason.
