Oh there is hope!!!!!! From a Conservative post

Well, I've been taking steps. I wrote my Congresscritter Mike Simpson informing him that he should sign the petition for a new leadership vote because DeLay is NOT the face to put on the Party--whether convicted or not, his ethics aren't acceptable to any party I'm willing to belong to. And I wrote to my two senators to let them know that "fiscal responsibility" doesn't mean taking all the cuts out of Dem programs, it means take a big hunk out of the transportation bill. (I'm not fond of entitlement programs, mind you, but it's easier to sell the public on cutting them AFTER cutting the most egregious wastes of money have been eliminated. As it is, there's more than a grain of truth to the charge of cutting things for the poor while giving still more to the rich. But ethics are the big thing with me right now. Without cleaning our own house of scoundrels, there's no hope of fixing the rest of the party's problems.

As a lifelong Republican, it pains me to say this, but the GOP is my party no more. It was a good effort, Christie, but I simply don't see change from within as being possible any longer. Why this decision? I could cite recent events, but that's not really the reason. The reason is that MY party has betrayed democracy in order to cement it's power. Mid-term redistricting to create "safe" districts? That runs counter to representative government. Intentionally increasing voter apathy to get low turnouts that favor our party? It may help the party, but it harms the most basic concept of democracy. A public show of cancelling the "Bridge to Nowhere", but leave the actual money in Alaska to be spent on DIFFERENT pork, so that the party can mislead the voters into believing they did something about this fiscal insanity? That's lying--a deliberate attempt to cause the public to believe something that isn't true, and that destroys the public's ability to trust its government. I see no way at this point to reclaim the party. It -may- still be possible to reclaim the country. It could be done, if the few remaining Republicans who place the welfare of the country above the welfare of the party could be persuaded to quit, and start a rival party that remembers Republican principles. Third parties have always faced the insurmountable Catch-22 of ballot access. But that's not neccesarily the case now. If ex-GOP moderates can be persuaded to break ranks, the situation can be salvaged. It wouldn't even take many: Five Senators and a dozen or so Representatives can form up a swing vote that can in turn force less partisan leadership, and force change in rules that will allow our elected representatives to once again represent us, whether the leadership likes it or not. But THIS party? This GOP, as it is now, this batch that's defending DeLay's end run around laws meant to curb political corruption? That's even -considering- restoring him to a leadership post? No. My party no more. My country comes first.

4. I Like This Lady
And I don't expect her to become a Democrat. She probably won't. But I can deal with *sane* conservatives like her. I can accept people who have different views than mine, as long as they aren't completely insane like neocons. I just wish more Republicans would be like her. We might be able to get rid of the neocon fascists if more conservatives realize that their party has gone too far.
