George W. Bush Is Dead To Me: By Mark Morford
George W. Bush Is Dead To Me
Nation cringes as the worst president ever continues long, painful slog to the end
By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist

Friday, July 7, 2006

It is like some sort of virus. It is like some sort of weird and painful rash on your face that makes you embarrassed to walk out the door and so you sit there day after day, waiting for it to go away, slathering on ointment and Bactine and scotch. And yet still it lingers.

Some days the pain is so searing and hot you want to cut off your own head with a nail file. Other days it is numb and pain-free and seemingly OK, to the point where you think it might finally be all gone and you allow yourself a hint of a whisper of a positive feeling, right up until you look in the mirror, and scream.

George W. Bush is just like that.

Everyone I know has had enough. Everyone I know is just about done. There is this threshold of happy deadened disgust, this point where the body simply resigns itself to the pain, a point where the disease, the poison has seeped so deeply into the bones that you just have to laugh and shrug it all off and go for a drink. Or 10.

2. The "moderate, thoughtful" Repugs in this article still DON'T GET IT
They think Stupid is the entire problem, that if the party sheds HIM, all will be rosy in the garden and they can go back to getting richer, quicker.

Well, that is simply not the case. The policies that Stupid inherited, the policies of fattening the rich, beggaring the working class, and pushing the middle class downward are set into stone in that party and until they change, you won't see a change in the health of this country. These policies were dreamed of under Nixon, began in earnest with Reagan, were ignored by Clinton, and are only now coming to fruition.

The pubbie answer for getting the country's fiscal health in order? Cut spending! However, consider the spending they will NEVER cut is the Pentagon's spending! They honestly think that by cutting off widows and orphans and the disabled they can save enough to compensate for the reckless tax cuts their party has accomplished.

Obviously, this is not going to work.

All those Repugs who think Stupid is the problem are as deluded as conservative Democrats who think continuing to fight for a nonexistant swing vote while ignoring their base will win decisive elections.

They've all got to go, every last conservative on both sides. They are the problem. They can't be part of any solution.

4. I certainly hope this is true:

"...discussions Gore's had with various major corporate CEOs about Gore's pet issue, global warming, and how obvious it is that 15 minutes after BushCo leaves office, we will have a radically new global warming policy."

baboon still has the support of the military who keep him in power. If they were to refuse to accept him as their commander-in-chief he couldn't function anymore.

I think now that proof has come out that he wasn't elected in two elections, but that those elections were rigged in crucial states, they could rationalize that since he isn't the real President, they don't owe him any allegiance.IMHO

7. That would be completely unacceptable. Look to Roman history
for what happens when the military is put in charge of the government.

Like it or not, the military has agreed to follow WHOEVER THE PEOPLE PUT IN CHARGE. That means they do as they are told REGARDLESS OF THEIR OWN HEALTH OR HAPPINESS because it is THEIR SWORN DUTY to abide by the constitution.

As long as George W. Bush is "recognized" as the lawful President, the good men and women in our military will follow his orders. It is up to WE CITIZENS to do the right thing, and get the SOB out of our house.

8. I agree. Military coups never come out good, however, I'm
not suggesting that they take over the government, just that they don't obey this particular President because he is an unelected fraud and we can replace him with one of those who were elected, either Al Gore or John Kerry.

I would like to see the military and Congress pressure *, snarl and the cabinet to resign. The military could be effective because without the military to back them, they have no power.

10. Unfortunately (?) disobeying orders is NOT allowed in the military.
"Go run towards those people shooting at you!" Sensible people would answer "are you out of your fricking mind?" while the brave men and women in our military charge forward. There is an assumption that sometimes they will be cannon fodder for the greater good -- that the folks who are put in charge of them care about their welfare, and will sacrifice as few of them as possible and ONLY for a damn good reason.

Our military CANNOT and WILL NOT break their oaths. It is up to us -- the folks who are SUPPOSED to be in charge -- to do the right thing, and get this SOB out of office.

It is nice to put it all on other people "if only the military and congress would pressure him" -- but it isn't right, and its not going to work. Its only going to be when enough average citizens start throwing conniption fits that things are going to change. That means its OUR responsibility to do something; the military folk are doing their jobs. Its time for us -- their fellow citizens -- to do ours.

11. So I guess I can go give them orders too?
Bush has no right as an unelected fraud anymore than I do. IMHO I believe those oaths can be considered invalid under the circumstances. It's time for some Constitutional lawyers to figure this out so they can give the military a basis for disobeying *'s orders.

The right wing has so convoluted our laws to suit their purposes making their criminal acts to seem legal, it's time that we the people do the same, but you and I cannot do it. It has to be those in a position of sufficient power to figure out what laws will back this and get the ball rolling.

12. You can give them orders to your hearts content, but you do *NOT*
have the title and recognition of "Commander in Chief." Unfortunately, unelected or not, George W. Bush is "recognized" as the President of the United States. He stood in front of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and took an oath of office (which he has violated repeatedly). We have no other "President of the United States" at the moment. No one installed an optional "second government" so we are stuck with the one we have in Washington.

Unfortunately, Al Gore (who was elected President of the United States) had no choice but to bow to the wishes of the Supreme Court when they decided to install George W. Bush. It was treason for them to interfere like that (when Florida already had appropriate law in place to deal with unclear election results), but it happened. Kerry had the same problem. Both are good, honorable men, who clearly understand the lessons that history offers regarding the horrors of civil war -- and for them to have continued to fight after their "legal" options were over would have been just that -- A Civil War.

I think folks still believe that we've survived bad presidents before, so we'll survive this one, too. I pray God we do, and that we are still recognizable as a good country afterwards. As it is, the fascists are in power at the moment, and good people everywhere are completely stymied as to how to get rid of them short of armed rebellion. Its an age old problem, and if it doesn't get resolved soon, I predict that guns will be brought to the battle lines.
