LULAC convention in Milwaukee gets political!
MILWAUKEE: Immigrant worker voter registration drive kicks off

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) chose the backyard of Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) for their annual convention, which closed with attendees taking to the streets to register voters.

Sensenbrenner is the author of the notoriously anti-immigrant HR 4437, which passed the House last December, igniting massive protests around the U.S.

“Rep. Sensenbrenner has been no friend to the Latino community,” said Mickey Ibarra, who served in the Clinton administration. He urged attendees to support Bryan Kennedy, the Democratic candidate, for Sensenbrenner’s seat.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson brought the convention to its feet saying, “Don’t take Bush’s agenda lightly. The Confederates have risen again.”

6. Is that the same convention where Dean spoke on the 28th?
I think Mehlman couldn't get there because of the rain. He sent a letter instead.

Dean was very outspoken.

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/14925280.htm

"The Democratic National Committee chairman said Republicans have been using immigration to advance their own agenda without thinking about what's right for the country.

"Immigrant bashing and scapegoating is wrong in order to win elections, and we're not going to do it," Dean said at the League of United Latin American Citizens convention in Milwaukee.

He said Republicans have been in control of Congress and the White House for years and could have done something about immigration and border security had they wanted to. But he said they were waiting for the approaching elections.

"This was going to be the group that they were going to point to to win the election," he said."

7. Dean had a big fundraiser for the Wisconsin Democratic Party
on June 28 in Milwaukee. Lulac convention was in Milwaukee June 26 through July 1, but I'm not sure where Dean's comments were made.

Radfest/Midwest Social Forum is a really cool event where a lot of different issue activists get together once a year... to change the world.
