Does anyone think that gas prices will ever go down? |
|
Sure, the price may go down a few cents. But a significant drop? I don't think so. The oil companies just keep raising the bar on the "average" price of gas.
I bring this up purely within the context of price-gouging, and not in the context of our disasterous dependence on fossil fuels.

5. They will drop in September to $2.50 or so on average |
|
and remain there till next summer, when the up up and away cycle begins all over again. It's a shame there's no way to de-list oil as a tradeable commodity on the commodity exchange. That would get the speculators out of it. Those guys buy and sell the same tanker of oil 4-5 times (generally to each other) before it even hits port. They make money on each transaction, and we get screwed!

I believe we will get the seasonal drops but it looks like we will never see the $1-1.50 a gallon range again. I remember when gas was only 88cents a gallon. That was only 5 years ago. Who had just finished their term of office at this time?

11. They've been artificially cheap for a long time. |
|
We built an unsustainable transportation system and a faulty land-use mentality on the promise of cheap oil, and higher prices are the "market" way to slow our thirst. I would prefer the "state" way, which would be rationing (perhaps with price controls) and new CAFE standards, etc.

19. Why would oil company folks want to have cheap gas? Of course, they'll |
|
probably trot out the propaganda that invading Iran would cause gas prices to drop, and their poll numbers will probably go up when they do so...

I'm anticipating a pretty good drop around September, with all bets off after the first week in November. This will repeat itself around September of 2008, and......well, you can figure out the rest.
