The good thing about Ann Coulter.
After I watched Whora O'Donnell lambast Cindy Sheehan about her hunger strike the other night, it got me thinking about all the Vitriol we direct towards Ann Coulter and about how that is perhaps a little misplaced.

Coulter doesn't pretend to be anything she's not. She's a rabid conservative, and doesn't pretend not to be. She doesn't get on the cable news stations pretending to be objective and middle of the road, and assault people with such questioning so biased that it almost burns the skin.

She's distracting because she pisses liberals off so much, but hell, at least she's honest about her positions. I honestly think people like Tim Russert, Wolf Blitzer, Kyra Phillips, Soledad O'Brien, Whora, etc, etc, etc ad nauseum are alot more dangerous to democracy than Coulter, who is essentially a windbag. Coulter can be debunked in a few seconds flat, she practically debunks herself, but you have to use more thought to explain to people why someone like Russert is a wart on the ass of democracy. Coulter is getting all the credit, when in truth, those named above are doing alot more work to damage this country than Coulter.

3. and everyone knows it
I actually feel more hatred watching what Whora did than anything Ann Coulter does. But as long as we are so knee-jerk about her (and play into her hands, I might add) we get distracted from people who are much more impactful in presenting an tainted viewpoint.

2. the problem
(at least in my opinion) is that the extremes (Coulter, Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, etc) are not only accepted as being truthful but they lead the people who should be less biased toward the right. In other words, in comparison the people like Nora don't seem too bad even when they are as bad or worse.

Good point though.

6. I feel like those people articulate FOR people who can't articulate
at all. They aren't literate, mentally, and the ones you named kind of unkink the minds of neanderthals.

But the pseudojournalists on the cable news stations that present this right-leaning, or right-lurching, viewpoint under the guise of objectivity...they are more dangerous in the long run, I think.

4. There's another good thing about Coulter.
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, she is probably human. That means that some day the bitch will die, hopefully in excrutiating pain, lying in a ditch while rabid rats the size of cocker spaniels gnaw at her entrails.

5. I know what you mean. Like a Klansman in a sheet
vs. one in a business suit.

At least the guy in the sheet lets you know where he stands right away.

9. Coulter crosses the line between common human decency
and gutter trash politics. Coulter puts out the equivalent of political pornography. Her trash only appeals to the prurient interests of nuts like her.

Apparently, Coulter has always had a problem with her mouth according to reports I've seen about her behavior in college.

10. Another problem
She's hauled from her crypt whenever the Right needs an attention-grabbing commentator, and she's presented as though she has an informed opinion. Her presence cheapens any debate or discussion in which she's involved, and by extension she cheapens poltical discourse as a whole.

11. read an article that puts it well:
"The problem isn’t that Ann Coulter exists. Of course Ann Coulter exists. Insufferable idiots are about as hard to find in America as amputees in West Africa. The problem is that she is paid attention; that she’s on TV and in newspapers; that the words “Party of rapist proud to be godless” float across the opinion section on Yahoo! News in bold alongside her empty face and no apologies are made. The problem is that mainstream editors and producers have no goddamn shame, that they would give Vlad the Impaler his own show or his own column if it would give them a quarter-point ratings bump. Coulter herself indicates nothing but the eternal human capacity for unpleasantness. Her mainstream acceptance, though, is symptomatic of a national mental degeneration. That’s the problem.

And the problem is also, as Ann would no doubt agree, liberals. Liberals who waste precious hours of their lives feverishly debunking her preposterous claims. Reading Coulter’s work in order to refute it is as pointless as covering your face in shit just so you can wipe it off. You don’t have to do research to dismiss Ann Coulter. You don’t argue with a street lunatic; you just keep walking. But instead of having the good sense to reserve their energies for people who could possibly be taken seriously, liberals exhaust their outrage on a cartwheeling rodeo clown whose sole purpose is to draw more and more negative attention from these self-same liberals.

...my point is that it is not necessary for anyone to illustrate that accusing widows of enjoying their husbands’ deaths is outrageous. Of course it’s outrageous; everyone knows that, and after all, that’s why she said it. That is, she said it just so you would get upset about it, and there you are doing it. There you are, arguing about whether you’re a commie traitor. The minute you engage that kind of blarney, you’ve lost."

14. she is laughing all the way to the bank...
conservative my ass...

if she believed her drivel...she would have done the following:

1. married young
2. popped out at least one kid every 18 months
3. wouldn't be "dating aggressively" around Washington DC
4. she would have at least one, perhaps two kids in the military serving her fuhrer
5. she would be writing ...but her husband would have to grant her permission first...

What is she...a single working woman who hasn't yet done her godly duty by procreating...and based on the fact that she is past 40...i don't think that will be in her future.

19. lol.
I didn't even notice.

I forgot about this thread, and now I can't remember the first post, and am wondering why it got deleted. I guess we can all claim credit for Coulter's success. Without our jerking knees, she wouldn't be such the star she is.

20. One small quibble
she is not honest about her positions, in that it appears she has plagiarized from several sources and has never acknowledged it, even going so far as denying she knew a colleague she'd worked with and whose writings she had used without attribution. IMHO, it is this that will be her downfall--UPS can get rid of an embarrassment and use a legitimate excuse that is not tied to politics.
