Canada, U.S. differ on missile defense, border security
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=0739e56d9cdff121

Despite North Korea's missile launches Canada has no plans to join the United States missile defense system, the prime minister said Thursday.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper also expressed his desire that a new border identification law passed by the U.S. Congress be delayed if not scrapped outright.

"The government of Canada is not prepared to open the issue of missile defense at this time," he said.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin told the United States in February 2005 Canada would not endorse the nascent ground-based missile interceptor system meant to protect the United States from an enemy ballistic missile. This announcement came after U.S. President George W. Bush surprised Martin with a broad request to support the program.

Bush did not raise the issue in his morning meeting with Harper.

"I didn't bring it up. I figured if he was interested he would bring it up," Bush said. "This is a particularly difficult political issue inside Canada."

1. Harper has only a minority government and knows he can't join Bush's
missile defense system unless he has a majority. The opposing parties in our parliament are against it so Harper's hands are tied. Otherwise he'd be right there. It has nothing to do with him not falling for the bait.

2. Plus we would end up with American military personel running all
over the country. And that would shock and instill fear in Canadians. So too. The issue or where exactly missiles coming over the arctic would be shot down.

I think Harper knows that the USA has plans for the north sea pass..that will be open fully in a few years.. because of global warming. Is there oil under them there ice?

Bush and Harper know very well that Harper has a minority. Look for nothing except for wedges that will spilt the other parties. Nothing that would put egg on Harper's face will be pushed. The only chance for missile defense is if Harper wins a majority.

3. Did you see Harper & Bush's news conf. where Harper said to Bush
"I want to thank you for causing something to happen I never thought I would see...the Canadian press standing when I enter the room!"....The nerve of the son of a bitch...He treats the media like dirt at home. It didn't seem to go over so well though. There was a rather uncomfortable silence when he said it.

4. Probably given the line by Rove. Amazing how bullying the press
and shutting many out of the information they need for their livelihood.. with not questions allowed in the press room..without control by Harper.. forces many to drink the koolaid to get the story.

Asymetrical access to the PM. You do what he likes..you get to ask questions. I wonder if the National Post will actually turn a profit under this minority government. That would be a first.

5. * wants to take over Canada no doubt about it.
Either as part of "Amero" or just by taking Canada over. He is biding his time, but there is NO doubt in my mind that it is part of his plan, the bastard! :puke:
