U.S. President George Bush said he wonders whether the world can trust anything said by North Korean leader Kim Jung-il.

During a news conference at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, Bush once again took North Korea to task for refusing to negotiate over its nuclear weapons program and this week's test-firing of seven missiles.

"He's made agreements in the past. He didn't live up to them," Bush said, going on to cite specifics.

"You've got to wonder whether the man's word means anything."

Any pretense at negotiation was scuttled right then and there. Il Jong's a paranoid caricature of himself apparently, but he represents a starving, nuclear equipped country that has nascent missile capabilities. I think I'd choose rice as my bargaining tool in this instance...and I suspect many in S Korea feel likewise. Bush and his administration know what Il Jong wants. A little rice, a place at the table, a photo op...I just think the West could buy off this grandstander in a heartbeat. I may be way off, in global political terms, I know...but that's my take.

8. Clinton and Carter had set up a deal with Kim that if the U.S.

would supply NK with oil, they would drop the nuclear program. BUSH is the one who reneged on that deal. I think it's clear that Kim has decided the best way to stay safe from a Bush pre-emptive strike is to have a nuclear capability.(Iran feels the same way)

In the event of an attack on NK, it is clearly understood that Seoul would be toast in a matter of hours. And if Kim is crazy enough, about 200 short range missiles would put Japan into a major crises.
They don't have a proven rocket that could reach the U.S. not that I think they intend to do that. But, there are other ways a nuke could be delivered by a determined, fatalistic and perhaps demented leader.
