Thom Hartmann said McCain has a deal with * to carry Jebbie as VP
on the ticket in return for *'s support for his own bid for the presidency? A Washington Journal caller mentioned this earlier this morning. Anyone know anything about where Thom got this information? More sourcing info? After the hug, I personally don't see * acknowleging McCain much at all.

2. Bush doesn't have to 'acknowlege' McCain
McCain is the petitioner here. He's been courting the Bushies for their support of his presidential candidacy, and it seems according to Hartman that Junior's price is a VP slot for his baby bro as well as the usual bowing, scraping and general ass-kissing he considers his rightful due.

3. McCain would be an idiot to make a deal like that.
Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 07:32 AM by Island Blue
If heaven forbid that ticket should get elected, McCain would have to watch his back 24/7 because IMO he would be a marked man. It would only be a matter of time before President Jeb :puke: would be measuring for new curtains in the White House.

4. The deal is at least partially sealed
Bush operatives are already running McCain's campaign. No solid word yet that Jeb is a definite lock for Veep.

37. Then Read This!
I've predicted for months exactly what you'll read below. The Republican ticket in 2008 will be McCain/Bush. Read and weep:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/columnists/orl-miket0606jul06,0,170330.column

<snip>

being McCain's vice president would make Bush a second fiddle. Bush is not a second-fiddle kind of guy, which is why he never considered a run for U.S. Senate.

But Bush might play that role to become president. And make no mistake: That is his eventual goal.

On paper, he is amply qualified, at least from a Republican perspective.

Bush has been a zealous tax-cutter. Florida's economy is booming. He has overhauled the education system. He ably got the state through an onslaught of hurricanes. His wife is from Mexico, and he speaks fluent Spanish. Religious conservatives love him.

If he had any other last name, Bush would be a front-runner for the 2008 Republican nomination. But given his brother's lagging popularity, the name that got Jeb where he is could stop him from going any further.

Diluting that name with McCain's makes it more palatable for a Bush-weary nation. It gives Jeb a chance to get people to look beyond the name.

5. I agree with that assessment
That was my immediate thought upon reading that tidbit. McCain needs to get measured for head to to toe body armor & I doubt that would be sufficient.

Hopefully, * will so alienate the Rs that the McCain hug can be used very effectively to deter this.

8. It's beyond baffling
that Mcain would embrace the very beasts that destroyed his presidential hopes in 2000 via the odious Rovian push polling. Tells me everything I need to know about McCain's 'character', as in: he has none. Unfortunately, most Americans are blissfully unaware of these revelatory facts and will vote for the man in total ignorance of what is to come.

39. That's a good idea to spread to moderates who may be attracted...
to "fellow moderate" McCain. Of course, McCain is not moderate, but instead a PNAC waterboy. But people are growing aware that the bushes will stop at NOTHING in their lust for power. Convince the McCain supporters that they are marking him for MURDER if they support a McCain/bush ticket.

9. I have been posting here for a long time McCain/Jeb for 08
with the understanding McCain retires after one term. That would give a leg up to Jeb in 2012...

IMHO,,, there are other Repugs out there that see this too and will stop McCain at all cost, they want their turn at the WH and do not want to wait until 2020

... is scary, even without Jeb. I think a lot of Americans see McCain as some sort of moderate, and I think he might be hard to beat.

I can totally believe this scenario.

14. I've seen enough . . .
. . . to know that there's not much difference politically between Bush and McCain anymore. They're in the same place on immigration, workers' rights, health care, and abortion. McCain even eventually supported making Bush's tax cuts permanent, and other than the torture thing, he's as hawkish or maybe even more so than Bush. And he'd nominate the same judges.

Just because they don't like each other doesn't mean I should give a damn about McCain.

Other than to worry of course that he's probably the most likely person in America to be the next president.

16. True, but only if the Dems use it!
The likely Democratic presidential candidates are more likely to shrink from using any advantage no matter how mild. They should force that photo down the throats of every American voter, but they won't... I'll bet real money on it.

I don't know if they would even have to 'accident' McCain. Have you seen pictures of him lately? If he is elected in '08, I doubt if his health would allow him to run in '12, over 6 years out.

I agree with Hartmann in that Jeb is the VP nominee for whoever is anointed. It is a package deal.

In 2000, the Bush Crime Family destroys McCain in the Repuke primary.

In 2004, Kerry courts McCain for VP.

In 2008, McCain cuts deal with the Bush Crime Family to carry Jeb on the ticket.
