The 8 soldiers are accused of putting an Iraqi in a hole and shooting him
But, thank the lord they can now visit the library and exercise for one hour a day during the week in the communal recreation area.

article:

7 Marines in brig get privileges

Associated Press
July 8, 2006,

Camp Pendleton spokesman Lt. Chad Vickers said the extra privileges were granted because the eight accused men all had behaved well.

"The men are accused of seizing an Iraqi civilian in the town of Hamdania, putting him in a hole and shooting him.

They allegedly placed an AK-47 in his hands and put a shovel in the hole to make it appear the man was planting explosives.

Can't see how Iraqis and those with loved ones in Gitmo might see this as a double standard. :eyes:

1. Innocent Until Proven Guilty. ...

Regardless of American hating GOP talking points about Guantanamo Bay, USA is a land of laws. The people accused of a crime have the right to be presumed innocent.

The people at Camp Pendleton are not convicted. They have rights. Respect them.

3. Presumption of innocence applies to court
not to a message board. And I don't see what that even has to do with the OP.

5. Applies Throughout
As I read the original post, the writer points out the people accused of the crimes are in California visiting library and other amenities while those in Guantanamo Bay do not.

Again it is about the rule of law. If American hating GOP types try to make USA in their image, I refuse to go along.

I have no problem with the accused having rights. Law is making us great, not weak.

4. good kneejerk. I don't need a lecture about rights
We should give the foreign prisoners we are holding indefinitely, without charges, without access to the evidence against them, without counsel, the same rights and privileges.
