30 years ago we know how our actions were destroying our planet.
What has really changed, apart from an increased population which in turn has only made things worse?

1. I agree, absolutely.
President Carter was talking about this stuff. But no, we couldn't listen, we'd rather give the presidency to a dotty old grandpa figure who'd tell us that everything was OK. Fucking chaps my ass to think about the decades of progress pissed away because the American electorate is a bunch of god damn toddlers.

3. Yet there's nobody today telling the same babies that it's all right.

Not just progress. Sensibility.

Meanwhile the media was doing "AMERICA HELD HOSTAGE, DAY #nnn"
every single night.

4. 36 years ago - earthday 1970.
The more our republic unravels, the worse the crisis of peak oil, catastrophic climate change, theofascism and neocon idiocy gets, the more it seems that we old and tired hippies had it all just about right. Too bad nobody really listened, too bad so many of us lost our way.

5. Not much, and the clock is ticking.
The 2010s will be our first "test" on what we've learned. The 2040s are our "final exam".

We have until then to get things right, or we're basically screwed.
