I sent an email expressing my support for her atonement (comments are now off). While I don't condone the comments, I hope she can put this nastiness behind her.

From her blog:

I wrote some inflammatory comments at a blog by a guy named Jeff Goldstein called protein wisdom that infuriated many bloggers and commenters. Many of these bloggers emailed my boss at the University of Arizona to tell on me.

In hindsight, the things I wrote were over the line of nastiness. I apologize to Mr. Goldstein.

I have resigned from the University of Arizona so there is no need for other enraged people to write to administrators there. I am a temporary worker there and I am in Oregon for the summer.

The Protein Wisdom blog is down now. The comments were nasty, some directed at Goldstein's child.

7. Here is the little I know.

It is down now and I had never heard of it before but apparently it was a right wing blog run by someone named Jeff Goldberg or Goldstein (I can't confirm). Deborah Frisch was an instructor at University of Arizona and seems to have gotten into a war of words with him and I think she went WAY over the boundaries.She used her university e-mail account.
This reflects badly on many of us. I will be interested to hear "the rest of the story"

According to her blog, she did resign. She was an adjunct professor with not a great employment history. Had been denied tenure elsewhere. Of all thing, PhD in psychology!

There may be more but I think this is inexcusable.

There's an old joke that I barely remember about psych students. But, as an aborted one who chose English instead, I can tell you most of us have something in our lives that propel us into the major.

Academics aren't footless angels. They have real lives with real bills and real family problems and so on. Hope she finds a better way to spend her time.

I think we all have breaking points. She crossed the line...stupendously....but I have no idea of what preceded that. It said they had gone round and round previously, maybe the other person pushed HER to that point, heck, I have no idea.

I know I have on a messageboard been pushed to the point of posting things I was not proud of. (not as bad as this woman, though).
It happens. I think the current technology makes it a wee bit easier to dash off hurtful things before critical thinking kicks in. Emails are instantaneous.
I think if we all had to write out correspondence by hand, we'd have less flaming. Of course, it would be dreadfully slow and I'd probably jab knitting needles in my head, but hey.
