Spotted today in South Tulsa
Fundie central. The home of Oral Roberts University, one obnoxious mega-church, and more churches and international fundamentalist ministries than you can count.

Spotted one car with an "Army Mom" license tag holder, an Oklahoma car tag, and prominently displayed underneath a "Peace is Patriotic" bumper sticker. No visible evidence of recent vandalism to the vehicle.

Hats off the the woman driving that car. May her child return to her safely.

2. does a heart good
sad we have to worry about someone with a bumper sticker that isn't even saying anything at all hostile toward anyone.

5. Actually
I've kicked around here longer than I will admit. Not much has changed at all. More (and bigger) McMansions. Fewer middle class and professional jobs. Greater disparity between the working poor and the elites. More religious dogmatism - still with ugly political ramifications. Greater fundie focus on prosperity, luxury and all things having to do with power, prestige and self-indulgence. The fundie mega-church across the street from the ORU avenue of flags is in the process of building a $20 million plus addition to one of their existing buildings. There is hope for change. Former Republican Mayor LaFortune is a member of that same politically active fundie mega-church. He lost his re-election bid to a Democrat and Richard Roberts endorsed his primary opponent.

I noticed that the woman who was driving the car carefully avoided turning her head to observe cars around her - or making eye contact with other drivers. I was going to give her a smile and thumbs up but never got the opportunity. I couldn't help but think that perhaps she had received a few too many middle finger salutations.
