Check in if youve been called a looney for saying the election was stolen
or saying you think Bush had a hand in allowing 911.

10. I have received many derogatory or condescending comments
whenever I express my conviction that both elections were stolen and that 9/11 was a construct of certain people who are now in major positions of power in running the government of this country.

I am not a conspiracy theorist. I am a realist.
Those who dish out the so-called terrorist attacks and those who believe the lies they are being told are the real conspiracy theorists.

11. I haven't been called names, but I've seen people's eyes roll.
Yes, indeed, the same people whose eyes rolled when I told them pre-invasion that Iraq did not have WMD.

For the election, I reiterate the fact that the New York Times (maybe WSJ, too) was ready to print the story of the vote actually going to Gore, when -- boom!-- imagine that, we got attacked.

For the 9/11 conspiracy, it only takes two people to make a conspiracy, and perhaps bush wasn't actively a conspirator, but in fact his criminal negligence played a major role. I just let people know how much bush has benefited Osama's goals as time goes on, starting first with pulling our military from Saudi Arabia, to getting rid of Saddam, to recruiting fresh members for AQ which was a spindly organization, and of course being so incompetent as to refuse to listen to advice and warnings about the impending attack. Yes, bush has been the very best thing for AQ, ever.

Pre-election 2004.

I believed the 2000 election was stolen. I believe the 2004 election was stolen. And like Mark Crispin Miller, I believe the 2006 and 2008 elections will be stolen, too, unless the Dems in leadership positions acknowledge the problem and DO something about it.

About 80,000 people showed up and voted for a black liberal pro gay rights women with no $ or name factor
but not John Kerry ..... that is 80,000 Kerry votes that got switched to bush .... so you have 80 k x 2 = 160,000
vote swing from Kerry to bush .... Kerry won, get over it.

25. Ya, I've called people loony for both..
The stolen election thing, in my view, is just an easy way out of accepting we lost. Problem is, it's self defeating. The more people who are convinced we can't win even if we try, the less that bother to get engaged and vote. The whole thing is really stupid in my view. Hell, on DU these days, any left of center candidate loses an election anywhere in the world and it MUST have been stolen. Apparently, left of center candidates simply can't lose at the ballot box you see. What silliness. I used to scream to anyone who'd listen that Bev "I've got the equivalent of the Pentagon Papers" Harris of Black Box Voting was a fraud. It was pretty unpopular stating such heresy here on DU, but eventually she was exposed as the utter fraud I knew she was. I wasn't the only one, there were a few others here whom also that saw through her BS (though we were all attacked relentlessly for daring to challenge her and the prevailing DU wisdom).

The LIHOP and MIHOP theories are just a way for many to reconcile their world view and 9-11. Bush is so evil that everything bad that happens must be his fault. Or, there is no way that a frightening minority of Muslims really do view us infidels worthy of slaughter (even Muslims living amongst us in the West). Or, Bush consolidated his "fascist" grip on American via 9-11. All nonsense. Shit happens. Actual Muslims that hate America had been planning this long before Bush was appointed President by the Supreme Court. If Gore had been President, the odds are 9-11 would have happened the same way. Sure, Gore would have responded better, but it still probably would have happened.

The believers of these things won't be convinced. I've spent time in the election fraud and 9-11 forum dungeons. I've seen beyond stupid mathematical "analysis" of exit polls which are accepted as truth by far too many on DU. I've seen posts where people actually burn up rabbit cages with kerosene and try to claim it scientifically shows the towers couldn't have fallen - and posted the ridiculous pictures no less. At this point, I just chuckle hoping the Democratic Party never gets associated with such foolishness.

I am not a loony conspiracy theorist, but I have absolutely called others that - and will certainly continue to do so when appropriate.

28. Ya, ya..
And we didn't really land on the moon, and aliens really landed at Area 51, and bigfoot really exists, and the Trilateral Committee is really controlling the West, etc, etc, etc.

All nonsense.

The next time Democrats sweep the elections, the entire election fraud conspiracy thing will be forgotten by most, regarded as an embarssing chapter in DU's history by others. Just remember, the more people you sell on this theory, the less voters you actually have to make ridding GOP control of Congress and the White House a reality.

The next time a Democrat wins the White House and it turns out LIHOP or MIHOP didn't really happen the entire issue will be forgotten, or written off as just a couple fringe types who actually believed such such nonsense (rather than a disturbing number of folks on this forum). Just remember, the more people you convert to such insanity, the more likely average Americans bolt to the other side to escape obvious silliness.

Up to you.

But it sounds like you always believe what you're told by the authorities; you are eager to assign disparaging labels to people who disagree with you; you try to discredit people you disagree with by projecting all kinds of things onto them.

:hurts:

I guess you also believe that global warming is just a freaky idea invented by a few tree huggers, there really are WMDs in Iraq and we just haven't found them yet, and Bush is the "responsibility" president.

:sarcasm:

And the name calling really does a lot to make people reconsider.

31. Yup. I've been chided and laughed at by some of my family
some I don't particularly like anyway so no matter (at least they're Dems). My sister thought I needed a shrink. She read Rolling Stone and some other articles in the paper and I recently got the "you may have been right" phone call from her, which was gratifying.

I was asked at work, very kindly by a psychologist I work with, that I should remove my Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker a few weeks after the election. I, of course, refused...it's still there. Some people I work with have put new ones on since '04, which I just love. Others kept theirs on as well.

47. Thats great!
I think we've all been raised to wait upon the media to give something legitimacy. What I often hear is, "if that's true, why isn't it in the newspaper?" Like "why isn't there a scoop"?

I gave that up after 911 because I could feel the media protecting Bush and I had that sick gut feeling you get when you know you are being lied to. Do politicians always tell us the truth? Do teachers or writers or news anchors? I am sometimes embarrassed at my own naivete - I'm never the first to suspect a lie. I believed there were WMDs in Iraq when plenty of people were saying otherwise.

Bush has lied and broken the law, and shown how little he respects any kind of law. Why anyone would believe his version of anything any more is beyond me! But as long as the media keeps reporting things from the right wing point of view, people don't question it.

I've been arguing with some of those people for 10 years on various discussion boards. There's one of them that I swear makes a hobby out of lying! I don't know how else to put it. He can always be depended on to know the latest Repuke talking points on any given day and to repeat them before anyone else.

Naturally nobody takes this guy seriously any more but it doesn't seem to bother him--although he does change screen names rather frequently. Probably his funniest posts are the happy-talk ones about the "roaring economy." Every time he posts one of those, another board member (a Dem) who is more financially sophisticated than I am advises the board: "Okay everybody--SELL!" He claims he's never lost money that way.
