Another moment of musing
Seems to me that we have been beating our head against a wall trying to deal with the Christo-Fascists type's. They wave their cross around, claiming both moral superiority along with Grand claims of Persecution, a double whammy which seems to stymie any possible chance of reasoning in the public forum.

Mr. Average Dumbfuckistanian watches this from the bleachers, automatically siding with the "Christians", since their opponents are all Godless Liberal Pinko, Murka Hating Non-Patriots, and never even give the "reality-based" voices a chance to be heard and understood.

The only way that it is going to be possible for us to remove them from this position of power is if the "Real" church gets off their collective behinds and call them down. I am not a very religious person myself, although as a younger man I found a lot of solace in the concept of a God of Love and Peace. Cynicism has a way of sowing those seeds of mistrust.

Anyway, this particular brand of what they pathetically brand "Christianity", with its anger, hate, mistrust, and downright destruction of any who would dare disagree with them, needs a strong counter-message coming from those who have the central message of Christian charity, tolerance, and love for their fellow human as their central credo.

Those who have either positions of strength within their own churches, or are perhaps ministers of these positive-minded organizations, need to step up to the plate and put their message where their silence now lies.

Ignoring evil will not make it disappear; only exposure of this evil to the strong light of day will do that.

We here at DU constantly expose it, but if the audience is not listening, it means nothing. Let those who have credibility with the Christians , (those poor fools who have fallen for the CF line) expose these charlatans for what and who they are. May not change every one of their opinions, but if it opens some eyes, that is a start.

1. Your solution
would seem to be a good one, but really, they won't listen to us, either. We are all going to hell.. maybe even moreso than atheists because we are Christians who don't toe their line.

2. I think the ones who aren't fundies will have their non-profit
status stripped for "using the pulpit" for political causes. I think I recall a church (obviously on our side) being threatened with this during the last election. Nice how they manage to ignore the ones who are spouting the neo-con abomination.

3. Well, I guess my point is
that it has to become a grass-roots thing. A long, slow process, to be sure, but people need to look inside themselves and at least attempt to make a comparison between what they feel in their heart, and how the BS that they are being spoon-fed is in such contradiction to their own awareness.

Many will say that the "sheeple" have no idea of how to be that honest with themselves, but I refuse to believe that these people are ALL like that. Sure, the "backwash" may be impossible to reach, but I imagine that within that 29-30% of the population are a bunch of lost and frightened people, not unlike drowning people who will grab onto ANYTHING to keep from going under. Those people, I would assume, have been scared away from those on this side of the fence by the power-holders of the NEOCONS and FUNDIES: and have been reassured by those powers that God is on their side.

Until the spiritual people of the LIGHT Side, (as opposed to the DARK Side) step out of the shadows and proclaim the falsity of the Fundamentalist message as it has been delivered, it will be almost impossible to reach them.

I constantly harp on the meaning of Yeats "Second Coming", and maybe I am totally mistaken in its message, but the lines "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity" sure does apply to the Neocon Fundamentalists.
