Keith O works for the "man" (MSNBC)
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 10:48 PM by G_j
no matter how noble his intentions might be
he works for MSNBC
Some things are not allowed
you will never hear Bush and "war crime" in the same sentence
nor Bush and "lie"
will you ever hear America and "mass murder" together on MSNBC?
of course not! They are not permitted to take the Lancet report seriously.
So as much as you may like Keith,
remember who writes his paychecks

6. hey, I like the guy
but I can't seriously expect him to venture into certain areas that are an absolute taboo in the corporate media.

9. I understand and don't blame you a bit.
I had just finished reading another thread critical of KO tonight that has gotten pretty wild and I came across your thread. I was waiting for them to pounce on you, too, when I commented about the need for a shield.

11. I just saw that
after I posted this

people really get their hopes up with K.O.
I just think we need to keep in perspective how far he can and can't go.
In a sense this could be taken in defense of him.

3. I agree to a point
But I also think Keith "walks on the wild side" more often than not.

4. I suppose, by the same token...
...we should dismiss AAR, because it gets much of its income from syndicating on Clear Channel stations?

5. Keith Olbermann is also a moderate in the first place.
He may seem like a liberal because he opposes the extremism of George W. Bush and Bill O'Reilly. Paul Krugman may seem like a liberal because he opposes the extremism of George W. Bush and Bill O'Reilly.

But if Dennis Kucinich were Speaker of the House and a Democrat were in the White House, we might not regard Olbermann or Krugman as liberals.

7. The Ironic Part Is That K.O. has said at least 2 of those 3, if I recall.
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 10:49 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
He has said Bush and lie on multiple occasions, and has spoken at some point bush and warcrimes as well when talking about different sides of issues. Not sure I recall america and mass murder though.

12. I do hear what your sayin though. But K.O. Is probably the only one
who has crossed the territory that no one else has. He's definitely got balls, and does it with a style that I think is entertaining and informative as hell.

I hear what you are trying to say, and admit even K.O. isn't perfect. I wish all the news each night kept calling out bushco on all the brutal truths of this administrations acts.

14. I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking him
but I don't trust his employer.

I think his popularity allows him to go further than others, fortunately.

This comes from a discussion the other night about a small bit sort of poking fun at Harry Belefonte.
A wise DUer pointed out that the reason it didn't sit well with them is that Keith would not be allowed to come out himself and say "Bush is the world's greatest terrorist" (which is what Belefonte said)

13. I remember when Katrina hit. KO said (paraphrase)
'You are now allowed to say 'this man is not my President.''

Thing about Keith is that he is a newsman more than he is an opinion commentator. Wish he could do a Hardball/ Factor type program. Wish ANY liberal had that type of program!

16. Tonight Keith repeated the Thug talking point

Gore strident, Gore strident, Gore Strident.

I hope he gets something for that. And it saddens me as we really like him here.
