Gore's reference to George Orwell?
Ironic or what? Intended? I think so.

1. I think Gore is a very smart and eloquent man.
He's connected the dots. Counted them, too. They really do add up to '1984'.

2. Oh yeah, he knew exactly what he was doing
Orwell was a very paranoid man. In fact, he was cooperating with the government, submitting names of colleagues and acquaintances he thought were dangerous (including suspected homosexuals).

Orwell's paranoia was entirely focussed on the possibility of a Communist totalitarian takeover.

I can only imagine how he must be spinning in his grave, to know that what he forsaw in his worst nightmares came out of the capitalist society that he thought was so immune . . .

But Orwell's biggest blind spot was that he was a snob. He had no faith in us proles.

So the reference is ironic on MANY levels . . .

3. I was hoping that I might be able to leave from room 101 but can't

for I don't quite love big brother yet on these points:
Reports of failure are almost certainly lies, the work of thoughtcriminals
Kindly ignore them. The govt. does not fail

Oceania (commonly called the US and Britain) is at war with Afghanistan Iraq. Oceania has always been at war with Afghanistan Iraq.

Eurasia (commonly called Russia, Pakistan, etc.) is allied with Oceania in war against Afghanistan. Eurasia has always been allied with Oceania.

In order to fight terrorism, we must cause it, says Donald Rumsfeld.

“I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace.” — George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States

Just like in 1984's Room 101, the Miniluv operations in Guantánamo Bay were authorized to “exploit[] a prisoner's phobias, sometimes using muzzled dogs in interrogations.” Doubleplusgood

and i just read the transcript after already watching the video a few times, and it made even more sense. not that i didn't already think we were headed toward '1984', but the fact that Gore actually implied it so plainly (yet discreetly) in his speech is relieving....to hear someone like him come out and say it.
