NEW YORK - A four-story building collapsed Monday in midtown Manhattan and was quickly engulfed in flames. The building is located on 62nd Street between Madison and Park avenues.

The New York Fire Department described the collapse as a "major incident."

It was not immediately known if people had been inside when it collapsed.

Gas leak? Meth lab? Bomb?

They say you can see the thick black smoke, but I can't see anything from my vantage point. I hear there are people trapped inside.

3. this is just the beginning
The only way to keep us sheople in line is to constantly
frighten us.

However, I believe that many of us now see through it and
are suspicious of this admin.

We obviously won't have any peace in the US until Bush is
either impeached, arrested, removed or resigned.

This is another false flag attack.

I guess not only will we have to turn over our phone and banking records,
its time to get that national photo id card NOW.

Gotta keep us safe from them terrists.

Couldn't it just be a meth lab or a gas leak?

You are completely right to advise us that it could be something as "mundane" as a gas leak or a meth lab. I just believe, as many people probably think, that this could very well be something designed to help the republican criminals who thrive on trying to frighten people for their own reasons.

Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 09:17 AM by Cronus Protagonist
I used to be a manager in an upscale apartment building - rents about double the surrounding buildings. One tenant was late with rent and didn't show up after notices were mailed and I had to go in and put his furniture in storage. It turned out it was being used as a crack cooking joint and someone forgot to pay the rent. I suppose they thought there was less chance of getting caught there.

Besides, wouldn't you smell that in an apartment building. I live next door to the state with the most meth labs and it seems like the reports on TV always talk about the odor from the meth labs.

28. Give me a break!
It was likely a gas explosion; that happens here from time to time. Someone interviewed from next door, who was evacuated, thought the building was used as a parking garage for a nearby club. Maybe someone knocked into a gas pipe or something.

I just found it unexpected that I would turn CNN on the TV (after I couldn't click on the CNN story link without being asked to engage in their "pipeline" for a monthly fee = bogus.) And there, instead of the closest staff reporter etc, was Larry King himself, reporting a breaking story live on-the-scene. Really, I thought Larry and CNN would not bother and just dispatch someone according to their master recipe.

So, I guess in answer to you: I was really surprised at the former, but once I'd had a sip of coffee I remembered the latter aspect. Larry doesn't do news but the Cult of Personality...the great national distraction.

Faux will be all over this story with all kinds of inuendo about how "terrorists" can not be ruled out as a cause for the explosion. When it does turn out to have been a gas leak, meth lab, illegal fireworks or something equally mundane, Faux will drop the story entirely with no retraction or apology.

although it's recently been used as a form of protest to express political distress by Liberals it's been used on ships, etc for a long time I believe. Without knowing who put the flag upside down and when it's difficult to know in which way it's being used.

I wonder how long that gas was accumulating until someone actually reported it.

I was walking in my mom's neighborhood with my hubby when I smelled gas near a house that was for sale and empty.

I got two other people to confirm the smell and we reported it...within a few hours the gas company was there fixing the leak... With underground mines and subsidence issues...natural gas leaks are common here in PA.

as horrible as this is...they are lucky no other buildings blew up...

the building is only 3 stories high......... that's beyond tiny for NYC. It also probably means that it is an old building (as nobody would build something that small now), which makes makes sense for things like a gas leak.
