"Brokaw Joins Fight Against Global Warming"
NEW YORK (AP) - Tom Brokaw is giving Al Gore some company in the effort to raise awareness of global warming. The former NBC anchorman is host of "Global Warming: What You Need to Know," which doubles as an explainer and call to action for average Americans. It premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. on the Discovery Channel.

Brokaw said he has seen and was impressed by "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore's documentary on the subject.

"It's the same science that we are drawing upon and it's irrefutable," he said. "I thought there was too much of Gore, but that's not my call. I thought it was very effectively done. To give credit to him, he's been on this issue for a long period of time."

Discovery, which has a partnership with NBC News, asked Brokaw last year if there were any projects he would like to work on. He said he was interested in the environment, and Discovery mentioned its global-warming project, which it was making in partnership with the BBC.

5. Gore is having an effect.
The Chimp acknowledges Global Warming for the first time, Walmart jumps in, a few major names start trickling in. I think they know that most people believe it, so they are trying not to distance themselves so much from it. Unfortunately, this isn't just for show.

This is good news. Hopefully more big names jump in.

7. Fuck Tom Brokaw! Brokaw did BushCo dirty work for years
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 02:07 PM by LaPera
by reporting the same "official "White House lies. - Now Brokaw secure with his millions, says he wants to help Global Warming in his retirement years...Isn't that cute.

So often Brokaw wouldn't report stories on this corrupt administration, when he could of really taken a stand, told the truth and made a big difference. Instead, Brokaw ignored the many, many incriminating stories concerning BushCo like all the rest...

Brokaw would also say he would never report exit polls again, because they were "wrong" in Florida, since the exit polls had Gore the winner...Why, because Bush was announced the winner (by Fox)? Even though the fucking exit polls were, as always, correct, Gore did indeed win.

Brokaw always tried to pretend he was this impartial anchor but when push came to shove he was just another news talking head working for GE and for these same fascist now in power and went along with the official WH/Rove spin & recited the talking points like all the rest.

Now retired going into his "golden years" were suppose to say isn't Brokaw just so sweet wanting to stop global warming...where the fuck was he when this same administration was insisting Global Warming wasn't man made...just raking in his tens of millions of dollars and repeating the BushCo bullshit.

Fuck Tom Brokaw!!!!

10. boy, did you ever take the words out of my yap!
you just channeled my thoughts

just the tip of the Brokaw/Gore iceberg:

.....Which brings us back to that fateful moment when the RNC began its campaign against Gore. As noted yesterday, the RNC made it clear, in May 1999, that it hoped to make Gore a figure of ridicule; quoting major Republicans, Alison Mitchell described the plan in some detail, right in the New York Times (see THE DAILY HOWLER 8/3/04). The GOP had run endless probes of Clinton, she noted, but they were planning a different approach with Gore. “ith Mr. Gore, Republicans are betting that well-timed ridicule can be more devastating than any inquiry,” Mitchell wrote. “In essence, they are trying to do to him what Democrats tried to do to former Vice President Dan Quayle.” As we noted in yesterday’s HOWLER, history is repeating itself; Republican sources described a similar plan for Kerry in a front-page report in Sunday’s Times. “Mr. Bush’s advisers plan to cap the month at the Republican convention in New York, which they said would feature Mr. Kerry as an object of humor and calculated derision,” Adam Nagourney wrote. The plan he described was the very same plan that proved so effective with Gore.

And the evidence is clear—in the case of Gore, the campaign of ridicule worked. From March 1999 through November 2000, the RNC churned a string of bogus stories about Delusional Gore, the guy who “doesn’t know who he is,” and the mainstream press corps made little attempt to challenge their idiot renderings. (Indeed, the mainstream press corps took the lead in conducting the War Against Gore.) Al Gore said he invented the Internet. Al Gore said he discovered Love Canal. Naomi Wolf told Gore to wear earth tones. Al Gore misstated the cost of dog pills. The tales were bogus—and never-ending—but the mockery and misstatements worked. Mocking Gore became second nature. Minor example: Right after Bush and Gore’s first debate, here’s the first thing that Tom Brokaw said:

BROKAW (10/3/00): The conclusion of the first debate. The election is just five weeks from today. It ran over—about five minutes altogether. There were some very spirited exchanges. The two candidates kept to their fundamental positions. You did have the feeling that if you'd asked Vice President Gore what he had for breakfast today, he would have said, “Two eggs over easy, coffee, and a waiter who was complaining about the tax cuts of the Texas governor.”

True to the standard the press had developed, it only took Brokaw about twenty seconds to offer his first mocking comment on Gore. But this was routine throughout this election. After Gore’s convention speech, for example, Margaret Carlson entertained other CNN pundits with her mocking impression of the veep’s speaking style. The RNC had hoped to make Gore a figure of ridicule. With the corps’ active help, they succeeded.

"Jack Welch is a genius at making all who work for him raise the level of their game.... I think he's the smartest boss I've ever had." --Tom Brokaw

my brother worked for GE, and said Welch was the WORST boss anybody could ever hope to have. when he quit, over 20 people in his office asked if he could take them with him

I could go on and on about that slime, but.....

12. Repubs attacking Brokaw's objectivity for this special

BROKAW’S OBJECTIVITY COMPROMISED IN GLOBAL WARMING SPECIAL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw’s lack of objectivity and balance on the issue of global warming appears to have tainted his upcoming Discovery Channel documentary called: “Global Warming: What You Need To Know” airing on July 16.
Brokaw’s partisan past and his reliance on scientists who openly endorsed Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004 and who are financially affiliated with left wing environmental groups, has resulted in a documentary that is devoid of balance and objectivity.

Colorado State climatologist and professor of atmospheric sciences at Colorado State University, Roger Pielke, Sr, viewed an advance copy of the Brokaw’s special and declared that it contained “errors and misconceptions.”

“The show relied on just a few scientists with a particular personal viewpoint on this subject which misleads the public on the broader view that is actually held by most climate scientists,” Pielke wrote on July 7.

Unfortunately, viewers should not expect a scientifically balanced view of the climate from the former NBC newsman. Brokaw who has been affiliated with the Sierra Club and has recently lavished praise on former Vice President Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth.” Brokaw, who called Gore’s film “stylish and compelling”, has called the science behind catastrophic human caused global warming ‘irrefutable.” Brokaw also chose to ignore all 60 scientists who wrote to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in April of 2006 questioning the science of climate alarmism.
