Lay Remembered as a Giving Family Man
For your reading pleasure.....the Houston Chronicle's account of the first of the two Lay memorials.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4035585.html

Excerpts:

"While Lay had numerous detractors, many in Aspen remained his fans and friends. (Reverend) Lawson told the gathering of almost 200 that those who are vilified in life - John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and even Jesus - often become heroes in death."

"It was very moving," said Fred Malek, chairman of Thayer Capital Partners in Washington, D.C. "It brought back the philanthropic man he was."

How these bastards escaped being struck by lightning is beyond me.

30. Interesting....Perhaps that's how they'll
explain it if Lay is ever discovered hiding out in luxurious exile.

23. The ability to "charm the buzzards off a gut wagon" ...
... is a common trait among the most corrupt and exploitative in our society. Yes - we people are often blind to corruption when we're being charmed. "Nice guy" - "charming" - "family man" - "friendly" - these are the characteristics of Ted Bundy. Even as he was about to be executed, people were quoted lamenting that such a "nice-looking guy" had to be executed.

Of all the falsehoods we grow up with, the notion that evil is visibly ugly is, by far, the most pernicious lie.

8. "Giving Family Man".
Yeah, right. He gave his family everything his overworked and underpaid rank-and-file employees strove so hard for. He robbed his workers of their earnings. I hope they're keeping Hell hot for him.

9. Lay will most likely be remembered for Enron, and its outcome.
Even if he were a family man, he ruined the lives of countless people with his thievery, explaining his obscene salary and bonus package by saying "my wife has expensive taste". History will remember him for that.

11. Philanthropist? He stole from all those families and gave it to his own.
Hero? Everyone at that funeral should be ashamed to have been associated with one of the world's biggest thieves.

I'll take that back. They compared Kenny Boy to JFK, MLK and even Jesus? Shameless.

"The simple stone and stained-glass Aspen Chapel perched on a hillside at the edge of town was modestly decorated with two urns of sunflowers and a large color portrait of Lay."

that maybe when Jesus threw the moneylenders out of the temple, those moneylenders had investors whose lives were ruined.... And MLK - I'm sure he ruined quite a few people in his day. Same with JFK...

22. His choices of people to compare Lay with
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 11:59 AM by LibDemAlways
are beyond the pale. In the first place, neither Kennedy nor MLK were "vilified" except by rightwing knuckledraggers. Both were respected the world over. As for Jesus, I'm not going there.

If Kenny Boy is to be compared to anybody, it should be a list of famous scam artists and con men.

21. He could afford to be "giving" and "philanthropic".

It's not like it was his money. He acquired his wealth by picking other people's pockets and robbing them and their families of their futures.

in assets got transferred to a family member to keep it safe from the Feds or courts.

As far as his philanthropy goes, it's easy to be generous with stolen money.

yesterday. He said during a short Christmas trip home, he was talking 2 his retired next door neighbor. He said he had grown up w/ her kids. Asking about the kids; learned her husband died the year before...The woman, retired school teacher, was trying 2 survive on $600/mo Social Security because all the retirement savings she and her husband had methodically put aside, disappeared in the enron black hole.
