Attn: Progressive Christians-- Have you checked out this website?
Email I received from the website:

On 6/6/6 superheated right wing hatemonger Ann Coulter published her latest book, "GODLESS, The Church of Liberalism", which begins with the lie, "Liberals love to boast that they are not 'religious'." and goes down-hill from there. The book has since become a best seller, not because it is good, but because it is the religious-polical right at its outrageous worst. Conservatives love it, and thereby prove how little interest they have in the truth.

Now that Coulter has put the national spotlight on the issue of which ideology is more compatible with God and with Jesus Christ, I urge you to point as many people as possible to the web sites which do the very best job in the country in arguing that even agnostic and atheistic Liberals are more in tune with the teaching and example of Jesus Christ than the Republican Religious Right, who are the kind of religious zealots who were the very bane of his existence. A Republican atheist actually wrote me once to say: "I completely agree with the entire theme of your web site and posts! Ayn Rand had it right: Christ was a socialist. I hope to "God" (that) conservative Christians never figure that out." He knew that our message wouldn't affect the party hacks; but he was afraid of what it would do to the mass of clue-less people in the pews if even doubt was sewn in their minds about who was really "Godless"

I urge you to see what this Republican saw, but to work to insure that his "prayer" is not answered.
Never has it been more urgent to get the message out that, far from being "Godless", Liberals are much more like Christ than are Greedy Old Party Republicans. Please forward this message to everybody in your address book and ask your friends to do the same. Please don't delay. Now is the time to promote, promote, and promote some more:
http://www.JesusNoRepublican.Org/ which shows why Jesus would abhor today's Republican Party, &
http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/ which shows why Liberal Democrats are more like Christ than are
Conservative Republicans!

Rev. Ray Dubuque,
founder of "Liberals Like Christ".

1. But of course!
Rev Ray has been a long-time caller to Guy James' show. He represents the liberal chistian philosophy very well.

10. Oh! Well, that would explain it.
Too bad, 'though. The Rev was one of those guys I loved to debate, because even if we disagreed, I always came away feeling good about the discussion.

3. Thanks for the links!
I am one of those liberal Christians caught in the middle, and I always like to see those of us who aren't crazy fundies having a voice.

4. RE: the Evangelicals that sponsored the conference Sen. Obama spoke at
The conference that Sen. Obama, Sen. Clinton and Gov. Dean was speaking at was sponsored by the Sojourners movement.

Sojourners are actually fairly left-wing on foreign policy and economic issues; and moderate on social issues.

Sojourners are the group they were speaking to:

Interview on Democracy Now with Rev. Jim Wallis (founder and leader of Sojourners) - link:

_____________

"The Rev. Tim Ahrens shared Wallis' dismay: "The faith of Jesus Christ has become such a violent and violating faith in the religious right," he contended. Ahrens is the founder of We Believe Ohio, a group of 300 clergy members dedicated to promoting social justice."

"Many Sojourner supporters didn't hesitate to call right-wingers "bible thumpers" and "fanatics," and they criticized the Bush administration for not helping the poor. They gave Obama thunderous applause when he proclaimed his support for separation of church and state and giving teenagers access to contraception. " link:
