17. Hell yeah!
Caught his speech on c-span a couple weeks ago. Got my conservative/republican step-father to watch - and he came away extremely impressed, even said "I agree with every single thing he said." My republican boyfriend also keeps telling me he and his other repub friends are scared to death of Edwards getting on top of the ticket (even more than they were in '04) because they're sure he'll win.

I'm gleeful at the prospect.

While he was speaking in Miami a couple of months ago. It was hot as hell. He was sweating up a storm. We all were that day.

But he proved to me he was for real. After all, how many other dems outside of Miami came down to speak on behalf of a bunch of janitors on strike, most who happen to be immigrants?

26. Well, I see that I'm too late for you to ask my questions, but save them

Just in case you see him another time......

I just want to know why he co-sponsored the IWR.....and why it took 3 damn longyears before he realized how wrong he was? Ask him if the Polls on Iraq is what made him decide to make his public admission and apology that he was "misled".

Also ask him if he feels the war has robbed our treasury out of money we could have used on the "poor" people his "center" is advocating for.

Also, ask him if he feels that someone as wrong as he was about an issue as important as War and Peace should now be rewarded with the Presidency. If so, ask him why that should be......as it would seem that there were many in this country who understood the perilousness of such a grave matter...and what makes him more "competent" than them that he should be considered as head honcho now.

Also ask him to provide some stats that lets us know that his being on the Kerry ticket actually was better than if he wouldn't have been.

Oh....and I almost forgot! Ask him why he thinks that after Bush's foreign policy mess that has been going on for the past 5 years, why he considers himself strong or competent enough to truly be the best man for this country, at this time, to truly "fix" things? Ask hime what are his qualification to keep us out of another war, considering how badly he was "misled"? Might as well also ask him if he's going to do something about the pentagon budget.......in order to institute some worthy programs...in particular those cut due to budget being spent on Iraq war.

and finally, ask he what he would do if they had a terror scare 3 days before the vote with him on top of the ticket, and how he would handle things so that Dems could still win? Cause me....I'm fucking tired of losing election after election, and I don't care how "cute" someone is.....or how many photo ops they participated in, or how many times they've gone to Iowa (10 times I believe to date)while nursing their wife back to health :eyes:

I'll be curious as to his answers.

34. Where are the smears?
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 07:46 PM by FrenchieCat
Did John Edwards co-sponsor the IRW?
According to governmental records, he did.
<i>S.J.RES.46 was sponsored by Joe Lieberman (D), with 16 cosponsors: Sen Allard, Wayne - 10/2/2002 Sen Baucus, Max - 10/7/2002 Sen Bayh, Evan - 10/2/2002 Sen Breaux, John B. - 10/9/2002 Sen Bunning, Jim - 10/4/2002 Sen Domenici, Pete V. - 10/2/2002 <b>Sen Edwards, John </b> - 10/3/2002 Sen Helms, Jesse - 10/2/2002 Sen Hutchinson, Tim - 10/2/2002 Sen Johnson, Tim - 10/7/2002 Sen Landrieu, Mary L. - 10/2/2002 Sen McCain, John - 10/2/2002 Sen McConnell, Mitch - 10/2/2002 Sen Miller, Zell - 10/2/2002 Sen Thurmond, Strom - 10/10/2002 Sen Warner, John - 10/2/2002 </i>

http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Iraq_War_Resolution

So my questioning him about this is based on a documented fact, not based on a lie....and therefore there is no smear.

The U.S. Treasurer is operating at a large deficit...and a lot of programs for the poor have been cut. The Iraq War coupled with the Tax cuts are the cause of our deficit. John Edwards does have a poverty center. These are just plain facts, not smears.

John Edwards did apologize for his vote three years after the fact, and after the polls showed that the majority had turned against the war. This is a fact, not a smear.

John Edwards said the reason he voted for the IWR was because he was "misled". That was his excuse, not mine. Asking him why he should be rewarded with the presidency for being so wrong for so long is not a smear, it is a question.....that anyone in their right mind would ask of anyone with Presidential aspirations.

23 Democratic and 1 Republican Senators voted against the IWR and many more did not co-sponsor the Lieberman IWR bill that passed. This is a fact, so asking why he thinks he's more competent than they are on questions of war and peace is a fair question.

and, by the way....I'm not Wes Clark!

But if you have questions in reference to any past actions by Wes, let me know.....Cause instead of saying "wow!" and calling your questions "smears"....I'll simply provide you with answers.

If you have any answers for me on the questions I originally post, great.
If not, then I will only state that your mentioning who is in the photo as part of my sig doesn't answer any questions.....but only appears to be a detraction from the fact that you have no answers for any of my questions....cause if you did, I'd have to assume that you would have responded accordingly.

It is the GOP who normally operates by calling honest questions smears if they don't like the questions nor the honest answer......I'm just surprised that you would not even have made an attempt!

And on Edit, Edwards did visit Iowa 10 times thus far....and he is nursing his wife back to health -

35. Uhhh...
I never thought you were Wesley Clark. My point was that since you have a picture of him in your signature (not to mention a quote of his), I assume you want him to be our candidate. When you write a long post blasting a potential rival candidate, it seems very political.

I use the word "smear" because you take several cheap shots at Edwards in your rant. You mock for him for his frequent visits to Iowa while his wife is ill and you also seem to think he somehow hurt the ticket, a completely preposterous viewpoint. Vice presidential candidates typically have no effect on elections.

You also make fun of him for being "cute" and question his character by claiming he changed his mind because of Iraq, an assertion you have absolutely zero evidence for.

I can't speak for Edwards regarding what he'll do about Iraq. But thus far I haven't heard any of the other Dem candidates offer any alternatives, including Wesley Clark.

37. Then you haven't been listening....in reference to other Democrats
offering Alternatives (see Kerry, Clark, Fiengold--each have them, even if you are not aware of that). But true, I haven't heard Edwards' alternative for Iraq.

DU is a political blog....so me asking a series of pointed questions to someone requesting that readers provide questions for Edwards seemed apropos at the time. Guess the questions I asked weren't the right questions-- Guess I should be "purged" from the audience....right? :eyes:

Further, I didn't make "fun" of Edwards for being cute....I said, that it is not enough--as that seem to be the most important part of the thread...the pics, and how handsome and charismatic he seems.

Edwards has visited Iowa 10 times......while stating that he won't run unless his wife's health is greatly improved. Is that me mentioning his wife's name as the answer when asked whether he'll run for office or not....or is that John Edwards' answer? So how is it a "cheap Shot" when I dare do the same?

I didn't say he "hurt" the Kerry ticket, I said I wanted something that showed that he didn't. He lost his state and even his home county in NC. That didn't help, now did it?

I don't even know what this statement of yours means...."question his character by claiming he changed his mind because of Iraq, an assertion you have absolutely zero evidence for."

I only stated that he apologized about his Iraq War Vote (and I guess the Co-Sponsorship of the IWR) 3 years after the fact, claiming he was "misled".

Here's the "evidence"....
"The argument for going to war with Iraq was based on intelligence that we now know was inaccurate. The information the American people were hearing from the president -- and that I was being given by our intelligence community -- wasn't the whole story. Had I known this at the time, I never would have voted for this war."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/11/AR2005111101623_pf.html

I just wanted some rational well thought out answers to my questions, but instead, I got attacked as a partisan on a political Blog!

But if you want to call my questioning Edwards "cheap shots", so be it. Problem you have is.....that you still have no answers.

Also, Clark and Edwards are not rivals. Neither is running for anything, and neither hold an elected office. I would think that both were working very hard to help elect our Dem candidates in 2006! That doesn't make them rivals at this time. Also know that the press and the primary process will determine who the candidate will be for the Democrats (and I'm not holding my breath that it will be Wes Clark--and I do understand that John Edwards gets very positive press and has a strong PR team...and certainly could end up as our nominee--So call me a realist). But that still doesn't mean that I think that it is a good idea to reward someone who was wrong for so long on something as important as war with the Presidency. I Consider it a bad idea in fact, because that's not the kind of leader that I see as best for America at this time....and therefore, excuse me if I don't have only praises for John Edwards'actions.
