Thursday, July 06, 2006 -- Rep. Waxman today sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff regarding a recent report that DHS is considering renting cruise ships to house illegal immigrants detained in the United States. Recent experience has shown that using cruise ships for temporary housing is enormously expensive.

2. They did do it for katrina victims. And spent millions to house

very few people. They alleged that they had to turn away thousands of cruise customers, and charged the full luxury price, as if the people were on a cruise. They alledged that teh gov't begged them for their help with katrina, and they were being good samaritans. In reality, Waxman found out, they were knocking down the GOP doors to get the contracts. he wants to avoid similar fraud.

What DHS is supposed to be looking at are old out of commission cruise ships. Like the Norway which is on it's way to the breakers.
