Poll question: Do you still support Lieberman?
Posted on Mon, Jul. 10, 2006
Lieberman files forms for independent run
Associated Press
HARTFORD, Conn. - U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman filed papers Monday that will allow him to petition his way onto the November ballot if he loses the primary election, his campaign said.

The three-term Democratic senator faces a tough Aug. 8 primary challenge from businessman Ned Lamont. Lieberman, whom fellow Democrats have criticized for his support of the Iraq war and a perceived closeness with President Bush, is popular among many unaffiliated and Republican voters in Connecticut.

He announced his intent last week to run independently should he lose the primary. He would have to file signatures the day after the primary.

He also filed papers Monday to create a new party called Connecticut for Lieberman. A group of 25 people who are helping him form the party will oversee the petition drive, said Marion Steinfels, campaign spokeswoman.

Tom Swan, Lamont's campaign manager, has said an independent run would hurt Democrats.

1. Why should CT Democrats be loyal to someone who isn't loyal to them?
He won't honor their vote in this primary, why should they support him in any way?

by sticking with Lieberman, "no matter what." :eyes:

8. Know what I find deliciously amusing?
When all is said and done, if Lieberman wins the Democratic Primary - he'll speak of "unity" and "putting the primary behind us" to "move on" for the sake of "working together"

and if he loses the primary as a Democratic candidate but wins the seat as an Independent he'll say the exact same things.

and the truly hilarious part?

There will be hard core, with us or against us, don't ever speak badly of a Democrat, uber party loyalists who will applaud this kind of speech....never once allowing the glaring contradiction to interfere with their pep rally.

lolololololol

Lieberman wants to win. Period.

He's got no qualms about how he wins as long as he wins.

Those who think winning at the cost of a principle is OK shouldn't have any trouble with what Lieberman is doing. I mean, gee, once he's back in office he can regain his principles then, right? Isn't that how the argument goes? lolololololol

9. Boy, that name they've picked for that alternative party is telling.
Doesn't represent a philosophy but a cult of Lieberman. The man just stands for his own aspirations and nothing greater. He's way too precious to represent real people.

14. I worked for Lowell Weicker during Lieberman's first Senate run
I may be a Dem, but I'm open-minded when it comes to twerps like this. His entire campaign was "Lowell Weicker: Too Liberal for Connecticut." When he wasn't sucking up to Imus, he was busy distorting Weicker's record and calling him a rich boy. He won, and a whole generation of nazis stole his "too liberal" meme. Thanks, Joe, you scumbag.

16. I supported him for *PRECISELY ONE ELECTION CYCLE*.
I supported him for *PRECISELY ONE ELECTION CYCLE*.

I thought his selection by Gore was at once both amazingly
bold and completely fatal, and Lieberman proved that to me
when he laughed at Cheney's joke during the Veep debate rather
than demolishing Cheney for it*.

The moment the election was over (and Lieberman was busy
conceding everything to Bush), my support ended forever.

Tesha

*You remember: Chenney joked that none of his Haliburton-
derived money came from the Government. Lieberman, rather
than pouncing on this incredibly blatant lie, just yucked
it up with Dick. At that moment, it was incredibly clear
to me that Gore had selected a traitor as his running mate.

19. Come on. Fess up, you actually work for a pollster professionally.
Why I say that?

The poll is the epitome of objectivity in the way the answers are stated. NOT

I chose Other, as I still support him with major reservations.

Rule number 1 is Know Your Audience. So I won't elaborate further.

22. I find "polls" that don't seek information, but instead make a point
using the poll format, to be somewhat annoying.

Why do a poll? You don't seem to actually want to know what you're asking.

28. Well, you intimated something that wasn't true
about my motivation for the poll. Had you asked, I would have told you I am interested in other's opinions regardless of my own, which was made obvious in the OP. Further, my opinion of Lieberman does not preclude a genuine desire to know how other DUers think and feel.

And I do "give a flying fuck about Lieberman" because he supports an illegal, immoral invasion of Iraq that has put in harms way my family and friends in the military.

25. Hi Clarkie, fancy meeting you on this thread too!
Your boy is scared of the people and comfortable with the DLC. I must admit I have voted for him three times (two for senate and one for VP), but during the Alito hearings I let him know I had had enough. Now that he has left the democratic party he is dead to me. If he had won the primary without starting the Lieberman Party I might have held my nose and pulled the lever for him. But now, if he wins the primary (God forbid), I will abstain. He will never see my support again. I would have more respect if he became a Republican because that is how he votes on many critical issues.

It is a shame he has alienated so many of us in CT.

33. From Warren DeMontague's myspace profile:
http://www.myspace.com/warrentheape

Warren Demontague is a theatre-trained thespian actor with a checkered and mysterious past. His origins seem to change with every story he tells, but the common threads indicate he came from a small English town called Wainscotting. Born with a natural talent for the craft of acting, Warren came to the states after some minor success in all-fabricated road-show productions of Shakespeare and a brief run on a BBC radio drama, that ended promptly when "scandal" revealed his true identity as a puppet. This traumatic career event soured the Ape, and some suggest it was the first trigger for his relationship with substance abuse and vice, a trait he has become known for.

Warren has been involved in every possible fringe of the fabricated-American's roles in popular culture, as well as a few unpopular ones. He has worked in children's theatre, biblical productions, summer stock, nature documentaries, experimental film, soft-core porn, exploitation films, American and British television, and appears on the cutting-room floors of several eclectic movies from our counterculture. Warren is best known for appearances in many British cult films of the 60s and 70s, ranging from all-puppet exploitation and horror (some of them with fellow actor Frederick Blah) to the early works of Mike Leigh, John Boorman and Mike Hodges. Rumors of his social interaction with many of Swinging London's bad-boy elite as something of a "token puppet" abound -- from his fabled breakup with Twiggy Lawson to his week-long binges with David Hemmings and Michael Caine.
