This is from my local paper, The Daily Post Athenian, from Athens Tennessee:
Besides urging support for Democratic candidates in the 2006 elections, former National Transportation Safety Board Chairman James Hall leveled criticism on a Republican officeholder not on the ballot, President George Bush.
Hall, who served as the NTSB chairman during President Bill Clinton's administration, spoke Saturday night to McMinn County Democrats gathered at Knox Park for the Charlie Oliver Day picnic.
“First of all, I am here specifically to represent Gov. Phil Bredesen,” Hall said.
Hall said he got to know him when Bredesen was Nashville's mayor and Hall was working in the administration of Gov. Ned McWherter. “But I'm also here to speak on behalf of Harold Ford, who is going to be a great United States senator,” Hall said. “And he will go up to Washington and vote against all this nonsense that's been going on for the last six years.”
Hall said he's seen political advertisements on television which end with the candidates stating they're responsible for the message which has just been aired. He said he's heard someone say there should be a sign on Bush's desk which states “my name is George W. Bush and I am responsible for this mess.”
“I never thought as a veteran of Vietnam that I'd ever see anybody foolishly take our young people to war again in my lifetime,” Hall said. “But despite the advice of Colin Powell and the people at the Pentagon, our president has put us at war again in a place that we did not need to be.”

In the article, Mr. Hall went on to praising Gov. Bredesen on his efforts for having to "go in and turn around the eight previous years of Gov. (Don) Sundquist where they depleted our Rainy Day Fund, where they took the TennCare program and ran it into bankruptcy and ruin, and where they failed to adequately support education and the working people of Tennessee.”
This was at a local Democratic event here in East Tennessee. I see Democrats getting fired up big time around here and it makes me smile. The times, they are a'changing!
