Holy crap. Very strong VIDEO DCCC just sent me in email
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 01:02 PM by BigBearJohn
Dear Fellow Democrat,

The DCCC set a fundraising goal of $500,000 for the end of the second quarter and because of your support, along with the rest of the DCCC community, we shattered that goal and raised over $620,000.

You have made sure that we can give our Democratic candidates, who are locked in some of the toughest races you can imagine, the support they need. These are the candidates who can win us a Democratic majority and bring America a new direction.

With that in mind, I want to give you the first look at a new DCCC video. I hope you will watch it, forward it on to your friends and family and ask them to join our movement for a Democratic Congress and a new direction for America.

Video:
http://www.dccc.org/r/17033/481400

Because of your generosity, when an Iraqi war veteran calls me asking for our help after being viciously attacked by Karl Rove's smear machine and needs to fight back I can say, "Yes, we can do that."

When a young challenger who wasn't even supposed to be in a close race tells me that with our help she can break it wide open, I can say, "Yes, we can do that."

And, when a candidate, slammed by a tidal wave of special-interest money raised at a Bush fundraising event, says she needs our support to stay in the hunt, I can say, "Yes, we can do that."

We are in a better position than ever to fight for our Democratic challengers. The Republican attack machine has already kicked into high gear, and we've already responded aggressively in states from New Mexico, just this past week, to Ohio, to North Carolina.

We are sending an important message to Americans across the country, to the Republicans, and to the media: we are here to win, we are a movement, and we are ready to work to put our country back on track.

Sincerely,

Rahm Emanuel
Chairman, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

1. That's a good video.
It needs to be shown to the whole country, not just Democratic party members. Hell, we know what has been done and what needs to be done. Show this to the public, show it often...

There is nothing wrong with America that can't be cured by what is right with America.

5. It's a better message, but is still missing some key issues...
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 04:17 PM by calipendence
... before I will go back to donating to the DCCC instead of individual candidates I like and other organizations that take more of an active role to changing our system:

DCCC needs to do the following to get me donating again:
1) Start advising its candidates to take election fraud seriously instead of staying away from it, like they did with Francine Busby, and to be more on the offensive in terms of making sure that our voting apparatus isn't going to be tainted in November. Each day they remain silent while folks like Lou Dobbs and Brad Friedman keep trying to be heard that a crisis is heading our way unless we act soon. If they don't take on this issue, all of this cheerleading won't mean anything, as they will still be a minority party come January 2007 if they don't.
2) Get the Democrats in congress to take George Bush's lawbreaking more seriously, and join ranks with folks like Russell Feingold who are trying to hold him accountable. We don't need weak apologists here. There are "hints" of that in this video, but not strong enough. We need to not allow people like both the Senate and House whistleblower bills to go through and make it sound like they are doing a "good thing" to help with oversight, when the bills are explicitly removing protections for security agency whistleblowers, the ones who need protection the most. The DCCC shouldn't be a sideline observor on this either. I know the RNC wouldn't if the shoe were on the other foot.
3) Get the corporate financing out of campaigns and start trying to show how the DCCC wants to change the way of doing business by Democrats to move away from the "pay to play" style of the DLC and other elements of the Democratic Party and start helping with local efforts in different areas of laying the groundwork for national public financing of campaigns. That is the only real decent way to limit corruption in Washington.

Until this happens, I will continue to put money in the coffers of folks and causes that try to address these issues, like I did with donating to Velvetrevolution.us over the weekend to do the manual count of the 50th District special election here in San Diego. That in my mind is better money spent at this point, than in some sinkhole that won't do anything until they start tackling the above issues.

7. It is an excellent, excellent video. My only quibbles --
They should feature a photo of Shrub with his characteristic smirk, because people HATE that smirk, and I was surprised they featured Bill Clinton at the end; my thought is they should feature a current rising star of our party.

11. I'm facing "broke",...gave $5,...figuring, if ten million give a $5,....
,...well, you know what I mean.

Meanwhile, I hope you escape that,..."being broke". It's stressful and sucks so much. I know. Already been there too many times.

13. I'm impressed.
I've often been critical of the Democratic Party establishment, but if they can fund powerful ads like that I'll be happy.

We really have to unite and attack Republicans and their policies before the general election. This is our one big chance.

18. They might have gotten the $50 I gave to the recount....
... if they'd helped with it significantly. Therefore because I'm giving the money they should have provided, they lose my donation!

15. Cute...but NOT A BROADCAST AD!!!
It is not in a broadcast format. It is not even in HD broadcast format.

It is a cute little video intended to drum up people on the Internet, like the people who read DU.

The Democratic Party would NEVER run this ad on broadcast stations, even if it was redone for broadcast standards. That would smack too much of taking a stand agaisnt Bush, and possibly winning.

And mentioning Clinton? The man that so many Democrats stabbed in the back? How could they put that in an ad for public consumption?

This is a fraud. Go back, and produce an ad for television with some courage, and run it. (Right now, the only political ads on the air in Florida are for Republicans. Apparently we have no Democratic candidate for governor.)
