Another Violent Day Kills at Least 50 in Baghdad - uh, civil war???
So when do we call this a civil war (that we started) and get the fuck out????

~snip~
BAGHDAD, July 11 — At least 50 people were killed in Baghdad today in a stunning array of violence that included a double suicide attack near busy entrances to the fortified Green Zone, beheadings, shootings, a series of car bombs, mortar attacks and the ambush of a bus carrying Shiite mourners returning from a burial.

The day’s killings, many of them clearly carried out as sectarian vengeance, raised the three-day death toll in the capital alone to well over 100, and deepened the sense among residents that the violence was not going to ebb anytime soon — and that Iraqi and American security forces were powerless to stop it.

5. I wonder if the U.S. armed/is arming the militias?
we know they were talking seriously about it.

Geraldo Rivera once said we should arm Sadr's militia to fight the Sunni insurgents.

Maybe I should rephrase the question, is there any possibility we are not arming the militias?

10. Absolutely NOTHING these criminals do would surpise me.
We are probably arming all sides in this conflict. We're not leaving till we get every drop of oil.

13. Yeah, Right -- Baghdad is Safer Than DC
The people who say are probably afraid to venture out of the suburbs.

I walk down blown-out ghetto streets in Baltimore at night and don't even think twice about it. The danger exists, but it's overhyped. OOH, I wouldn't go anywhere near Baghdad. That is suicide.

12. 50 a day have been dying for a long time if you believe >50,000 have
died as a result of the war.

http://www.iraqbodycount.org/ has between 38,000 and 43,000, but they only list the deaths which make it into media accounts and for which there is some amount of documentation, so it's an undercount.
