Thank God W wasn't around to Veto the Polio Vaccine.
Cause he's apparently going to do the same thing next week and veto funding embryonic stem cell research thereby saving the lives of millions of sufferers of thousands of diseases.

Rather than do anything to actually help people, the sick, the poor, the oppressed, they go out of there way to cater to Falwell and the base, who all claim Christ as their example while they go about murdering thousands and making trillions.

Heartless mother fuckers.

1. A small point
While I totally disagree with Bush's threat to use his one and only veto on such a thing, I just want to point out other countries are going ahead with embryonic research. IOW the discoveries will be made. In addition, the adult stem cell research is yeilding quite a few advances and as far as I know Bush is allowing public funding for that.

I disgree with him on this but it's not ALL bad.

As a researcher (not in this area), the attack on scientists and medical advancements by this administration are abhorrent. There is no good reason to veto such a bill. It's irresponsible and downright ignorant. And to date, adult stem cell therapies (despite the claims) have shown nothing.

Kudos to New Jersey for giving state funds to Princeton for embryonic stem cell research:

"It was only natural that Princeton researchers would make the list when New Jersey became the first state in December of last year to award grants for work on stem cells.

Two of the University’s grant recipients, molecular biologists Ihor Lemischka and Kateri Moore, continue exploring the cutting edge of stem cell research. One of these efforts is a collaboration with electrical engineer Ron Weiss to program embryonic stem cells to “fix” disease. The third grant recipient, molecular biologist Thomas Shenk, will focus on producing stem cells from human umbilical cord blood.

The grants from the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology will further work in the field of stem cell advancements that began at Princeton more than 25 years ago.

Still, the current public interest in their work creates challenges for Princeton researchers unseen in past decades. Rampant misinformation about the progress of stem cell research affects funding and raises the need for public education."

We are living in the dark ages.
