3. What makes you think they were NK or China? I would suspect NSA |
|
or CIA or some other shrub appointed skullduggery as much or more than furriners.

the greater visceral response to (i like some cheap chinese products too); but it is clear that there are others wholly outside NSA & CIA that seek to do us harm...it is folly to think otherwise and can drift the eye off target imo

left to seek motivations and capabilities. I also see no damage done - aside from snooping and information gathering.
I see the NSA and other covert organizations as supremely capable and motivated. Not so sure about China and esp. NK. I fail to see what they would gain by knowing what we know about them. Couldn't they just assume that we know what they have let us know and a little bit more?
NSA needs to motivate the sheep into a hate filled fear frenzy. If they set up NK and China to appear as having stolen our "State Secrets" about them, well then those heathen huns deserve to be sanctioned and maybe even nuked.
Or maybe they simply wanted information and did not want to wait for an approval process. Then they went and took it. That's how this administration works you know.

expanding markets & research (a pursuit that has brought us nearly to our knees) there is plenty of motivation & capability. i should mention that i don't think they'll succeed electronically; a post above mentions american hackers as being non-existent, but we have some very smart people on the case firewalling shit up one side & down the other still...
a civilization so dependant as ours upon space sat & transmission technologies is open to no-less than solar flares; a purposed set of individuals could still wrought extreme havoc

Who wrote the IOS for the core network routing equipment, where? Who wrote the code for the most popular operating systems in the world? Who writes internet protocols, designs PBX systems, and has more computing power than the world combined?
That would be the US and companies doing business here.

I don't know anybody here that still hacks. A few kids, here and there, spamming or writing viruses, but nothing like the old days.
Big time US pirates have retired too, after several got caught, but the overseas guys are still at it.

I'm gonna say something racist here.
As a teacher, I was always impressed by the immigrant Chinese students. They arrived early, stayed late, did extra, paid attention, had supportive (driven) parents, and just generally kicked the asses of the other kids. They didn't have much social "school spirit" and didn't wear the latest fashions, and didn't drive the hot cars, though.
The US can kiss its collective ass goodbye if the Chinese take up hacking the US in any serious, organized fashion.
Notice... I'm not badmouthing ANY other racial/ethnic group. I realize it's just as racist to impart positive racial characteristics as it is to impart negative characteristics.
In this case, I'm willing to admit to racism.
When I think of someone as dumb as Dimson and his assholebuddies negotiating trade or policy issues with the Chinese.... the urine just runs down my leg!
